Harold Varner III was arrested earlier Thursday night. Jail records at Mecklenburg County show that the LIV Golf pro was booked for driving while intoxicated. As per the records, the 33-year-old was booked around 7.30 PM. The Gastonia native was driving “while subject to an impaired substance,” Channel 9 reported.
The East Carolina University grad was driving on Providence Road when he was booked. Reportedly, Harold Varner III blew 0.16 on a breath test. The accepted legal BAC limit is .08%. Varner’s bond was set at $500 US, which he posted last night. Online court filing reveals his hearing will be on next month, January 19, 2024, being a possible date. Further details about the arrest are not available at the moment.

Harold Varner III joined the PGA Tour in 2012. After plying his trade on the Tour for ten years, the American International joined LIV Golf last year. In a press conference, Varner III was brutally candid about his reasons for joining the breakaway side. Blasting the ‘growing the game’ narrative, the 2022 Saudi International winner slammed the players who resort to that hackneyed narrative: “They are full of s***.”
The 2016 Australian PGA Championship winner finished in seventh place in this year’s LIV Golf individual standings. Harold Varner III was also tied for the 29th spot at the 2023 Masters. The 33-year-old recently joined Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC in a swap deal for Peter Uihlein.
