Bryson DeChambeau has been an avid critic of how the OWGR system currently is unfair to LIV golfers. His claims led the way for a few other LIV players to voice out their disappointment as well. After a long wait for the verdict on their plea to the OWGR, they finally got a decision recently.
The verdict refused to include LIV events as a basis of the OWGR system. It emphasized that the reasons are technical and political. DeChambeau quickly tweeted in response and he was not happy at all. He recently spoke about his tweet and the verdict and offered an alternate system that could solve the issue at hand.

In a recent press conference following the above events, DeChambeau faced a question about his recent tweet. “I think I said what was necessary in that quote, I guess you could say.” Bryson DeChambeau’s focus seemed to be that LIV golfers should miss out on playing major championships or open events, because of a lack of a better OWGR standing.
If OWGR can’t rank LIV players based on their performances in LIV events, then DeChambeau has suggestions to offer. “Top 12 on the list, the Money List at the end of the year, or the points list at the end of the year would be, I think, obvious for the major championships,” he said, wanting the world’s best players to be part of the Majors.
“We want to continue to change and grow the game in places like Saudi Arabia, like Singapore, like Australia.” The ‘Mad Scientist sounded proud of the impact they are creating at LIV golf. He felt they were doing what was needed. He concluded the discussion by saying, “In regards to the OWGR, it is what it is.”
The obvious pride in DeChambeau’s claim about what LIV is doing was unmistakable. He mentioned how people repeat their concerns about the shift to LIV from the PGA tour. DeChambeau sounded convinced that it was actually an amazing opportunity for those who moved to LIV.
Let’s look more deeply into the issue and see what both sides have to say in the matter.
OWGR Verdict – fair or unfair?

The key reason cited for refusing to accept LIV’s plea was the format of the events. Experts advocating for OWGR repeat that there are not enough players competing in LIV. They also add that the players are not playing enough holes.
However, what Bryson DeChambeau suggests doesn’t really focus on the ranks. His focus is on LIV players being able to play in the major championships, as they are the only opportunities for them to earn points.
To play in these events, the OWGR ranks are the only criteria. What DeChambeau suggests is a system that allows a list of players from LIV based on some metrics to enter the Majors. He suggests maybe the top 12 from overall season standings.

Whether the verdict is fair or unfair is subjective, of course. However, maybe Bryson DeChambeau’s idea doesn’t contradict the complaints raised from the other side. We will have to wait to know if he gets a valid response about this.
