If one is to search for the happiest man in the LIV Golf Series right now, the most obvious answer would be Talor Gooch. The golfer was named the Individual Champion after his stellar performance throughout the year, propelling him to the top of the season’s leaderboard.

However, surprises kept on coming for the newly-crowned champion as he saw his CEO get down on his knees for Gooch. Yes, You heard that right! Greg Norman was spotted doing the most bizarre action in front of the champion! However, surprisingly, it didn’t hold well with the fans.

The 31-year-old was crowned the champion of the 2023 season owing to three wins at Adelaide, Singapore, and Andalucia followed by a runner-up finish at the Jeddah event. The golfer was awarded an eye-watering $18 million as he pushed his total earnings to over $30 million for the year. However, his winnings did not stop there as Norman went ahead to gift a ring to the title holder.

An Instagram post was also uploaded by the official handle of the Middle Eastern circuit consisting of a series of pictures of the Aussie and the American. One of the images showcases the entrepreneur on his knees in front of the athlete presenting the glittering jewel during Wednesday night’s Welcome Party that took place as a prelude to the Team Championship in Miami.

The other snaps show the 1X PGA Tour winner posing with the ring on his finger followed by another with the CEO. New to the Saudi-backed league this season, the ring was made in collaboration with the famous Ben Baller and his company IF+CO.

However, the golf community did not take the new form of celebration too well as they took to the post to express their dissatisfaction with the same.

A cheap-looking ring for LIV Golf?

Neither the league nor its CEO might have thought of the backlash the ring might bring to the golf world. There were a lot of comments under the Instagram post ranging from dubbing the whole thing as an unnecessary facade to making fun of LIV Golf. Let us take a look at some of the reactions.

It was the first time such a celebratory practice took place in the PIF-funded league and people were not in favor of it. A lot of people did not find it normal, especially when Norman presented the ring to the champion, much like a proposal. Reactions including “This is so f**king weird man” and “So f**ken stupid!”  were commented under the post.

There were a lot of people who didn’t view the professional in high regard owing to the number of wins he got on the PGA Tour, the sole one at the 2021 RSM Classic. An enthusiast went ahead to respond how he doesn’t have much of an effect in the game as they commented, “I’m sorry but Talor Gooch ain’t moving the needle.”

The NBA also has a similar Championship ring that is awarded to members of the team that wins the annual finals of the league. Each year they change the design and the number of stones that it is made out of, valuing between  $50,000 to $150,000. Well, as opposed to the same, the look of the LIV Golf ring did not sit well with fans as one person commented, “What a cheap looking ring, looks like industrial diamonds.”

The Saudi-backed league is known for the amount of money being used for the game. And someone did point it out rightfully so, albeit in a sarcastic manner; “Kind of small for the amount of money being tossed around.”

Another person went ahead to comment on the whole process of ring presentation attributing it to the whole circuit as they responded, “This league weird as hell bruh.”

Another enthusiast mockingly alluded to the treatment given to the best golfer in the league. He went ahead to make fun of both the professional, who has more accolades on LIV Golf as opposed to other Tours, and the circuit as well; “This is their best golfer and you clowns are doing this?! Man y’all just making it easy.”
