As if there were no shortage of headlines for LIV Golf Mayakoba. Jon Rahm is set to tee off for the first time on the other side. Tyrrell Hatton, who has signed up for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, might actually travel to Mexico to play beside the Spaniard instead. Then there’s Brooks Koepka, adding one more layer of intrigue with his new haircut.

The Jupiter native has been in the headlines for several reasons in the off-season, most notably for his brash New Year celebration. Now, in the new season, Brooks Koepka has decided to surprise fans once again. So far, the LIV Golf Pro has been quite successful, as it got everyone talking pretty quickly.

It looks like Koepka and his employers decided it was as good a time as any to get a new haircut. The Smash GC captain had to forego his mullet and sported a faded sidecut. LIV Golf League posted a clip on their official Instagram handle captioning, “Look good, play good 🔥@bkoepka [Brooks Koepka] with the fresh cut ahead of Mayakoba.

Brooks Koepka earlier had a mullet at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Marco Simone. It came into sharp focus because of his dig at buddy Sam Burns’s mullet with ‘USA’ etched on the sides. Koepka is no stranger to making bold choices, however.

In the past, the nine-time PGA Tour winner dyed his hair blonde. That also left golf Twitter in a frenzy. Allusions to Game of Thrones and comparisons with Slim Shady filled the Internet. This time, too, fans didn’t take long to share their thoughts on the new haircut.

The Internet delivers its verdict

Mullets are not uncommon in golf. In fact, Brooks Koepka’s LIV Golf teammate, Cameron Smith, is famous for his signature mullet. The new haircut, though, found love from his team. Commending the fresh new look, the Samsh GC wrote from their official social media handle, “Tournament ready!” They also shared the clip on their Instagram story, captioning, “New season, new cut.

One Instagram user had a crazy idea. This golf fan wants a ‘mullet’ team at the Masters. “Need to keep the mullet and have a team called mullet masters. Obviously, @cameronsmithgolf [Cameron Smith] needs in.” Another fan, though, already saw the sixth Major coming in Koepka’s way. “Looks like the 2024 masters winner to me.

However, the new haircut didn’t impress everyone. Some of them felt the earlier haircut suited the 33-year-old more. “Mullet was better,” wrote this Instagram user. Some chose a more harsh tone, writing, “Let a real barber cut that, it’s not even blended properly on the sides.”

One user took the opportunity to take a dig at LIV Golf’s format. “The only cut liv (LIV Golf) is worried about,” quipped this fan. LIV Golf Mayakoba kicks off on February 2, one day after the second Signature event of the PGA Tour, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, kicks off in California.
