Joaquin Niemann follows his win with a jab! The Chilean professional managed to emerge victorious at the first event on the 2024 LIV Golf calendar at Mayakoba a while back, in the fourth playoff hole with Sergio Garcia. But what followed his win was a comment that the champ made, all the while taking a brutal dig at the majors.

A tweet was shared by Kyle Porter, a sports writer for golf, on X (previously known as Twitter). He mentioned the first thing that the champ said after emerging triumphant in the fourth playoffs: “I’m not in the majors.” Nothing short of a sarcastic jab at the devastating situation that does not allow LIV Golf champs to play in majors.

Niemann’s love for the major championships

A tweet was shared by LIV Golf on social media. The circuit showcased a video of the golfer’s interview following his clinching the victory after the four-hole playoff. However, during the same, he expressed his desire to play in the majors but followed the same with a savage comment, “I gotta get in first.”

“You want to play the majors?” asked the interviewer to an elated Niemann following his victory on the men’s circuit. The answer? “Oh Yeah!” he exclaimed with absolute certainty. Well, it does make sense for a professional to have his ultimate dream of playing and winning in one of the four majors.

The reporter followed it with another question: “Are you hoping that this win gets the attention of the relevant bodies?” to which the professional swiftly responded positively. “Oh I hope so,” said the golfer before going ahead to express how he is “just ready” to go out and play at the major championships.

He sure has high goals set for the rest of the season. But are they achievable? As of now, no. Since the OWGR does not offer LIV Golf and its players any points, leading them to fall downward in the world rankings. This, in turn, severely affects their major chances, except for those who already have exemptions, including the likes of Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm.
