Well, not everything has been smooth sailing for LIV Golf as recent news by OWGR revealed a huge setback for the Saudi-backed league. The ranking system refused to accommodate the league as a lot of players on the so-called ‘rebel circuit’, including the ever-talented Bryson DeChambeau, would get severely affected as their chances of appearing at certain tournaments get crushed.

However, DeChambeau has not let the issue hold him back. Moreover, despite his disappointing finish at LIV Golf Jeddah, the American professional was seen sharing a touching message to the league’s individual champion, Talor Gooch, dubbing him “worthy” no less!

The event in Jeddah saw Brooks Koepka lifting the tournament trophy while a runner-up finish from Gooch ensured his position as the top player in the LIV Golf 2023 standings. What’s more, the victory amidst the loss garnered a lot of praise from his fellow golfers, including DeChambeau.

The 30-year-old shared a post on his Twitter handle after his T4 finish in the season standings. He took up the opportunity to commend his LIV counterpart on his “Big Win.”

Adding to his praises, the 8X PGA Tour champ tweeted, “Congratulations on the success this year and all the hard work paying off,” all the while expressing how the win was “well deserved.” Gooch was able to accumulate the most number of victories in the season with a win each in Adelaide, Singapore, and Andalucia. The T2 finish at Jeddah was the final push that he needed to claim the crown and take home $18 million.

However, the happy news might be short-lived as the recent rulings by the OWGR would make any success on the Saudi-backed league moot for both DeChambeau and Gooch in the case of contribution towards important events like the majors or the Ryder Cup.

The ranking system issued a letter to the directors of the PIF-funded league to convey their decision regarding the points being awarded to the LIV players. Citing reasons of a different format, as opposed to the normal 72-hole one, and a lack of player relegation and participation, the OWGR presented the latter with purely “technical” reasons to deny the points, thereby disallowing their entry into certain tournaments, including the major championships.

However, DeChambeau did not take the news lightly as the golfer expressed his dissatisfaction with the same. Although he was not surprised by the decision, he mentioned how it would have been better to award them spots in the majors based on the season-end results.
