What’s one of the most dreadful things an athlete can endure? An injury! Almost every golfer, be it Tiger Woods, 26-time PGA winner Rory McIlroy, or the 2x major winner Nelly Korda, has fallen victim to the plight of injury and has withdrawn from events because of it. And now it has brought its dark clouds to LIV golfer Ian Poulter

In the latest Instagram story posted by Poulter, fans could see his heavily bandaged ankle and were impatient to know how it happened. Thankfully, the golfer gave the reason in the caption. According to the golfer, he hurt his ankle last year, and the issue has flared up again. “Just to give you a little context. I picked up an ankle sprain back end of last year,” wrote Poulter.

The injury was aggravated during LIV Golf UK at JCB Golf and Country Club. The greens at the JCB are known for their uneven surface and hard soil, which the golfer said was the reason his injury flared up. “Walking last week on very undulating ground aggravated it during JCB week, hence needing heavy taping to stop it from getting worse, the golfer described further. The good thing is that Poulter is still able to hit a few balls without feeling much pain; however, he will still be withdrawing from this week’s golf event at the Foxhills in Surrey.

The golfer is forced to sit out the International Series England, which is taking off on August 8; however, Poulter will be returning to LIV Golf Greenbrier. “We’ve been advised to keep the walking to a minimum for it to recover best for Greenbrier @livgolf_league next week. That’s why we’ve withdrawn from this week’s event.” But don’t worry, golf fans; you can rest assured that your favorite golfer will still be coming to see you.

Despite facing this major injury, Poulter has surprisingly promised the fans to attend the event at Foxhills just to watch the game and meet the fans. “I will see you on Saturday @asiantour @intseriesgolf at @foxhillssurrey to sign for the fans and see some of you.” Poulter was very excited to play in the event and return to his homeland.

Earlier this year, Ian Poulter had expressed how thrilled he was to play in his hometown for International Series England. The Majesticks GC’s co-captain was looking forward to securing the trophy and ending his winless 2024 season in the upcoming event. “Playing in England has and always will be very special for me. Having home crowds and family and friends supporting is always awesome”, said the golfer, according to Asian Tour.

However, all his excitement was turned to dust due to the dreadful injury in his ankle. The Foxhills Golf Club is not that far away from the golfer’s home in England and despite being close to the golf course, it is a shame Poulter will not be able to show his incredible skills in his hometown. The golfer hasn’t had any good tournaments this year, and with the announcement of his withdrawal from the International Series England, do you think he’ll be able to bounce back and secure his first win in the 2024 season in Greenbrier?
