DeChambeau's PGA Tour request: A genuine ambition or a hilarious publicity stunt?

“I wanted to create some cool content,” said Bryson DeChambeau gleefully when asked about his ‘Break 50’ video with Donald Trump. Moreover, the piece with the former POTUS also helped him rake in quite a bit of money for charity, all the while pushing him past 1 million subscribers on YouTube. Calling him a successful content creator wouldn’t be too much of a stretch, would it? Well, that is also what the LIV Golf Pro himself thinks, apparently, as he made an intriguing request for an invite to the PGA Tour.

A tweet was shared by the 30-year-old on X, all the while tagging the official handle of the Jay Monahan-led circuit on the same. He tweeted, I’m waiting for my invite to the Creator Classic @PGATOUR,” albeit in a hilarious tone.

The PGA Tour, alongside Pro Shop, had recently decided to conduct ‘The Creator Classic’ ahead of the FedEx Cup season finale, the TOUR Championship. It will take place at the East Lake Golf Club as a nine-hole competition on August 28, Wednesday and will be broadcast on various platforms, including the PGA Tour YouTube channel, Peacock, and ESPN+, alongside PlutoTV, Roku, Samsung TV Plus, Tubi and XUMO.

The tournament will witness 16 of the most popular content creators duking it out on the field at the newly restored golf course, all the while aiming for the inaugural Creator Classic title. If Bryson DeChambeau’s ‘suggestion’ gets approved by the circuit, then he will be teeing off against the likes of Tyler Toney from Dude Perfect, Good Good creators Garrett Clark, Brad Dalke, and Sean Walsh, not to mention the Bryan Bros, and Fat Perez from Bob Does Sports.

The Creator Classic will consist of a gross strokeplay format for the first eight holes, following which there will be a playoff between the top four in the standings. The golfers, meanwhile, will be the first to tee off on the officially restored back-nine at the East Lake course. DeChambeau will also be able to do the same if he gets invited to play at the event as a content creator.

Have an interesting take?

The politician played golf with the LIV Golf Pro in a two-man scramble at the Trump National Course at Bedminster. They did so from the most forward tees on the grounds, all the while aiming to raise money for charity as well. “Wanted to make it about charity and the Wounded Warriors Foundation,” said DeChambeau in a press conference at the UK event, I’ve done a lot for them in the past, and it was fantastic to see that he was willing to support it.

The two had pledged to donate $10,000 for every birdie they scored and $20,000 for every eagle that they carded during the content creation video. The result? A whopping $220,000, all thanks to the twelve birdies and five eagles over the 18 holes. Well, after witnessing the pair-up between Bryson DeChambeau and Donald Trump, many would have been slightly inclined to agree with the businessman when he said, This is going to be one of the greatest rounds of golf ever played.”
