It’s usually the likes of Jon Rahm or Tyrrell Hatton who would be spotted dropping F-bombs on the course. However, the Spaniard is absent from the greens at Houston this time around, and it appears someone else has taken his place. Enter a pissed-off Ian Poulter at the final round of the LIV Golf event in Houston.

A tweet was shared by NUCLR GOLF showcasing how the English golfer was having a spat with a follower who reportedly heckled him multiple times outside the ropes. The explosive video showcases Poulter laying into an unruly fan as he walks off the green and into a golf cart with playing partner Brendan Steele.

As the 48-year-old trudged on, he turned to the golfing enthusiast and fired, “Why don’t you f*** off? You were f**ing piping up on the 18th tee, so f** off.” The fan, meanwhile, urged the athlete to relax, to which Ian Poulter replied, “I just suggest you shut the f*** up.” That’s not all. As the vehicle wheeled away, the LIV player added, “Next time he’s out.”

His frustration, apparently, came out as a result of the fan’s heckling during his round, which witnessed him score a sub-par 7-over par 79. This, in turn, added to the score and caused him to finish T46 with figures of 2-over par 218 over the three days of play. His gameplay included a total of 10 birdies, and 8 bogeys, 2 birdies and 5 bogeys of which came on Sunday, respectively, with 2 double bogeys. Regardless of the performance or the heckling by the enthusiast, Ian Poulter’s interaction failed to find much support from the community, as many took to comment against the professional.

Netizens rebuke Ian Poulter for his outburst at LIV Golf Houston

Ian Poulter hasn’t been able to dish out the ideal of performances this season, with his best coming off his single top-10 finish of 2024 with a T8 finish in Hong Kong. His display outside the Saudi-backed event wasn’t too different either, with him scoring a T41 finish at the International Series Macau presented by Wynn. An enthusiast consequently responded, “Ian is washed so he’d rather take the easy money and not have to compete against the big boys anyways.” The golfer, despite his below-average performance at the recent event in Houston, had still managed to rake in a cut of $124,000. Another user on X couldn’t help but take a jab at the golfer and his majorless career as he commented, “I suggest you win a Major.” The athlete has a total of 3 PGA Tour wins and 12 DP World Tour victories, none of which include a major championship triumph.

Back in Adelaide, more than 94,000 fans attended the LIV Golf contest over the three days, with 40% of them being out of state, including those from other countries. Although the event in Adelaide saw many fans flocking to the golf course to watch the athletes in action, the same cannot be said for the other tournaments, especially those in America. Well, Houston wasn’t too different either, with just a few followers being spotted in the video that was shared. A couple of fans came forward to respond, “Literally like 10 people there,” and “So Ian decided to cuss out the only LIV golf fan? Brilliant!”

Many golfers had defected to LIV Golf, all the while stating how they did so to leave a better legacy for the game. From Phil Mickelson to Jon Rahm, many PGA Tour players have expressed the same when doing so. A fan couldn’t help but make fun of the claim while alluding to the recent incident as they commented, “Gotta grow the game!!”

Although it was reported that the follower had heckled the LIV Golf Pro, one can’t help but wonder if the way Ian Poulter reacted was right as well. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
