All eyes are on the Golf Club of Houston as the LIV Golf showdown starts from June 7 to June 9. This event, just a week before the US Open will serve as a perfect way for the qualified golfers to test their skills for the third major of the season. LIV golfers will compete for the usual sum of $25 million. 

This time, Patrick Reed will be competing on his home turf. And Anthony Kim is returning to the city where he last tasted victory. Rippers GC will also be looking to continue their recent winning streak and triumphing third consecutive event. Will the play be hindered this weekend? or will it all go smoothly?

Get ready for a sunny start to the first day at the Houston Golf Club. Fans can expect mostly sunny skies, with temperatures reaching around 95°F. As per weather.com, the chances of rain are pretty low, at 15%, there is still a small chance of a shower or thunderstorm. So, keep an eye out just in case. Despite the sunshine, it will be a bit humid, at 64%. The UV index is expected to be extreme, so don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun throughout the weekend.

Moving on to Saturday’s weather, the skies will be partly cloudy, and the temperature will be slightly lower. The chances of rain drop to 8%, signaling it will be a dry day overall. The wind might offer some relief from the heat, blowing at speeds between 10 and 20 mph. Humidity levels will be around 67%, and the UV index will remain high. So, make sure to take precautions against sun exposure.

Wrapping up the weekend, Sunday will bring mostly sunny skies again. The temperature will be around 93°F, and there’s a slightly higher 17% chance of precipitation, although significant rain is unlikely. The southern winds will persist at 13 mph and fluctuate between 10 and 20 mph. The sunrise and sunset times will be the same throughout the weekend, at 6:19 a.m. and 8:21 p.m., respectively.

The Houston event will surely be an interesting one for the Saudi-funded players, as a few of them have witnessed tremendous success here in the past. The weather will not disrupt the play, and hence the players will have the chance to recreate the glory they once did while competing on the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf players who have had tremendous success at Houston GC

The Houston GC has previously hosted the Houston Open from 2003 to 2019. Five of the current LIV Golf players have won titles at this course. Paul Casey, a Crushers GC player, secured a victory in 2009 via a playoff. Another name is Anthony Kim, who triumphed here in 2010, marking his last professional win before retiring due to injuries two years later. He is a wildcard entry in LIV Golf for the ongoing season.

Phil Mickelson, captain of HyFlyers GC, won at the Houston Golf Club in 2011 by three strokes. Matt Jones of Ripper GC claimed his first of four professional wins in 2014 via a playoff. Lastly, the 48-year-old Ian Poulter of Majesticks GC achieved his last professional victory there in 2018. Carlos Ortiz and Jason Kokrak in 2020 and 2021, respectively, have also enjoyed success in Houston, winning the Houston Open after the event moved to Memorial Park.

Overall, the weekend will be good for a game of golf. Fans must prepare beforehand for the hot and humid conditions by adding skin protection and hydration to their to-do list.
