In February, Brooks Koepka became the only player on LIV Golf to win four of its events. Just five months later, the 5-time major winner became the first again to post five LIV Golf career wins after emerging victorious in Greenbrier. It was quite a feat as his team, Smash GC, also carded their first team victory in the 2024 season.
From his past starts, including the four majors, this was a 180-degree shift in the way Koepka has played this year. Although his major tally could not go from five to six, he became only the second player on the breakaway circuit to have multiple wins in the 2024 season. With it, he broke the record he bagged on the PGA Tour.
Koepka had won four regular PGA Tour events, but he now has more LIV Golf wins, with his five majors on the top. Reporting it on X, Alex Myers of Golf Digest wrote, “Brooks Koepka now has more LIV wins (5) than regular PGA Tour wins. And, of course, he still has those 5 majors. What an amazing—but kind of weird—career.”

Talking about his win at the Old White course, Koepka said, “This year has not been very good. It’s nice to kind of try to end it on a high note.” Furthermore, he hoped to perform better in the individual championship scheduled for Chicago and the team event later in Dallas.
While the 34-year-old rode high on his victory, the golf world did not entertain it and ridiculed the feat by comparing it to the PGA Tour and how it probably does not hold much value in comparison to it.

LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have been compared to each other, ever since the breakaway circuit came into existence. So, when Alex Myers pointed out how Brooks Koepka had more regular wins on LIV Golf than the PGA Tour, the debate was dug out once again. And the first point highlighted by one user was the strength of the field, as LIV has 54 set golfers at every single event, without any change! Except on special occasions.
Thus, this user emphasized that Koepka could win more times on LIV because of a weaker field. They said, “Do you think the field strength on LIV has anything to do with it? Limited field and the depth of that field is crap. He’s playing against 10-12 guys.” Another user reciprocated a similar stance, as there is no cut, and most golfers on LIV Golf are ranked lowest on the world ranking system. Hence, that made this fan say, “Uh….LIV wins are way easier and not even comparable” to the PGA Tour.

Koepka has been a professional golfer for more than a decade now. And in these years, the veteran has amassed 21 wins, including the ones in international leagues. However, his prowess on the course could still not impress this fan, let alone the five LIV Golf victories. They ridiculed Koepka and said, “Brooks is good no matter where he plays.”
A regular PGA Tour event usually has more than 140 golfers teeing up before the cut is made. In comparison, LIV Golf does not even have half, which, for some, may hint that the field isn’t as competitive. Thus, winning in that particular field might be far easier, which was why this viewer seemed to undermine Koepka’s 5 wins and wrote, “Almost like it’s easier to beat 1/3 of the field size of pga tour.”
Another reason why many in the golf world claim that the disruptive league might be easier for professionals is because of the 54-hole format. Instead of playing for four days as a traditional game, the Saudi-backed league opts for only three days with a guaranteed payout for each golfer.

Koepka winning five times in a span of three years on LIV Golf proved to some golf enthusiasts that the league was easier. As this fan said, “Kinda highlights that Liv is a much easier exhibition.”
In the past three years, LIV Golf has faced criticism for various reasons, but the golf world has now warmed up to the league’s format as well. Although Koepka is receiving criticism for his 5 LIV Golf victories, he might get praised for it in the coming years, who knows?
