Debate

Did Trump's taunt give DeChambeau the edge he needed, or was it just a funny moment?

Who’s a golf enigma? Joe Biden or Donald Trump. The entire world has seen the former POTUS’ swift swings with famous players like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Bryson DeChambeau, and many others. Joe Biden, on the other hand, claims that he once had a handicap of 6 during his time as Vice President. He later corrected it to be an 8. Trump refuses to believe that it is true.

Bryson DeChambeau recently weighed in on the debate and put forth a proposal for a golf match between Donald Trump and Joe Biden to settle the matter. To this, Biden stated that he had already sent a request to Trump for the same. It looks like this time he finally gets an official invite too!

Donald Trump was at his rally in Doral course, South Florida. It was there that he challenged President Biden to a golf match. The official X (formerly Twitter) page of NUCLRGolf.com uploaded the video. Trump said, “I’m also officially challenging crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match right here on Doral’s Blue Monster, considered one of the greatest tournament golf courses anywhere in the world, one of the great courses of the world.

The debate was ignited on June 27 in Atlanta. It happened when Trump said that he had won two club championships, but he was certain that Biden could hardly drive a ball 50 yards. This was when he brought in his handicap argument.

The former POTUS seems to be quite confident about the game that he publicly announced, giving Biden ten extra strokes. “And I will even give Joe Biden 10 strokes a side. Ten strokes, that’s a lot. That means 20 strokes, in case you don’t play golf. And if he wins, I will give the charity of his choice, any charity of his choice, $1 million. And I’ll bet you he doesn’t take the offer,”

Joe Biden did not deem it necessary to prove himself. Instead, James Singer, his campaign spokesperson, waved off the challenge, stating that he was too busy thinking about the development of the country. However, the golf community is surely eager to witness the challenge, if it ever takes place.

Have an interesting take?

Can Joe Biden vs. Donald Trump be the golf match with the highest viewership?

The debate between the former and the present POTUS has indeed been the most viral moment from their respective rallies. And well, given that Trump has time and again demonstrated his golf skills, the golf community does want a challenge to take place.

Donald Trump is not only confident in his swings and putts but also believes the Biden vs. Trump golf match will be a true spectacle. In his speech, he even said, “It will be among the most-watched sporting events in history. Maybe bigger than the Ryder Cup or even the Masters.” Taking to this viral moment, and how it would be to be able to witness the presidential candidates swaying over the golf course, some of the golfing fans left comments like, “It probably won’t happen but it’d be hilarious if it did” and “Please let this happen lol”.

David Feherty, who was once also an American professional golfer himself, had a 19-year broadcasting career. The former Ryder Cup player breaks the stereotypical mundane commentary and brings out some of the best one-liners for the coverage of the game. Be it his sarcasm to Gary Player’s comment on PEDs for modern golf, Jim Furyk’s swing, or Tiger Woods’ performance, he has got an answer to all of it. Taking to this, one of them even commented, “Imagine Feherty commentating this 🤯”.

Even though Joe Biden’s physical health has been one of the biggest issues in the election, according to the Axios website, he is the fittest between 10 am to 4 pm. He cycles regularly and is quite efficient in the cardiovascular area. Although people might not have seen him golfing, clips of him cycling have been viewed. Donald Trump might have an impressive handicap of 2.5, but Biden might beat him in cycling. Taking to this, one of them commented, “Do it… only if Trump agrees to the same bet for a 1-mile bicycle race.”

Golf has been a rather beloved national pastime in the US for decades now. It brings together people from all parts of life and gets them into a mode of competition and camaraderie all at once. And the challenge between Joe Biden and Donald Trump would pretty much turn out to be the same. Taking to this, people left comments like, “This is one of the most American things I’ve seen in a while.”
