The greatly anticipated 2024 Showdown finally came to an end. The golf world got to witness the top players from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf face off at the Shadow Creek Golf Course. Well, it was Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler from the PGA Tour who took home the victory. They defeated Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka from LIV Golf. They have had the winning hand from the beginning.
McIlroy and Scheffler triumphed over DeChambeau and Koepka in both formats. First winning the four-ball match – 3 and 2, followed by a 1-up victory in the foursomes. McIlroy led DeChambeau by 1 up through 4 holes, while Scheffler was 2 up on Koepka with just 2 holes to play, securing a half point for the PGA Tour and clinching the win. But looks like the LIV Golf has taken a turn after the results.
Before the tournament started, all the LIV Golf players came in support of Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. But the moment Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy won, they became neutral. The official Instagram page of the LIV Golf League took to its wall. They shared a picture of all four golfers on the course after the match. In the caption, they wrote, “The game of golf, and its fans, won tonight 🙌”. They are saying golf as a whole won.

However, the golf community has been mocking the caption because it was put after Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka lost the match.
After DeChambeau – Koepka’s loss, the Golf Community busts LIV Golf
The PGA Tour barely had any marketing for the Showdown. So much so that neither of the PGA Tour Pros even rooted for Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler. On the other hand, the LIV Golfers were loud enough to predict that Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka would easily grab the win. Even a few hours ahead of the tournament, RangeGoats GC Captain Talor Gooch was asked what he thought, and who according to him would win. He did not even take a second to take LIV Golf’s side. As the words have changed now, one of the fans asked, “Would the caption be the same if LIV won?” While another simply commented, “What a sore loserish caption”.
A pair of wayward tee shots from Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau proved costly on the par-5 16th, where a win from Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy would clinch the match. Scottie Scheffler nearly sank an eagle but settled for a birdie, while Koepka couldn’t match the effort. That left the PGA Tour players with the crucial half-point they needed to secure the victory. It was the LIV Golfers that gave away the trophy to them. Taking to this, one of them commented, “I’d say that if I lost too”, while another wrote, “I’d say that if I lost too”

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau might be friends now, but this was not the case earlier. They had a huge feud going on. It all began in 2019 at the Dubai Desert Classic. Bryson DeChambeau’s methodical, science-driven approach to the game clashed with Brooks Koepka’s quicker, more straightforward style. DeChambeau’s use of detailed calculations before each shot led to slower play. Well, that didn’t sit well with Koepka.
The five-time major winner criticized “long hitters” and players who rely on “calculations” for slow play. Though he didn’t mention anyone by name, it was clear the comments were aimed at DeChambeau. The tension escalated further when DeChambeau confronted Koepka’s caddie at the Northern Trust in August. This might be one of the reasons why one of the fans wrote after McIlroy’s victory, “Bryson and Brooks had zero chemistry.”

While other fans, practically enough just corrected the caption, and simply left comments like, “Nah PGA won according to the scoreboard 😉” and “Correction, PGA WON”.
