The ‘Scientist’ sure does stand by his words. Bryson DeChambeau, back at the 2024 PGA Championship, mentioned the importance of fans in driving the sport. It was these same followers who helped him become popular. However, the situation wasn’t always like this for the golfer. It was especially difficult back in 2022 when he joined the Crushers GC in LIV Golf for a reported $125 million after changing his gameplay to become one of the biggest hitters of the golf ball. Both of which helped him make the biggest decision of his life, being the ‘Showman’ of golf!
The golfer was spotted in an interview hinting at the same after his scintillating third round at the ongoing 2024 U.S. Open. Although DeChambeau made sure to not dub the actions he took three years ago as a “regret,” he did go ahead and call it a “learning experience,” all the while emphasizing the need to grow from one’s past “mistakes”!

“I never regret anything in life,” mentioned DeChambeau, in the presser, while alluding to his decision to join LIV as well as his choices that changed his physique. “Do I not like what I did? Absolutely. But every moment that I live in this life, I’m always trying to learn from my mistakes.” The golfer had, back in 2020 and 2021, eaten improperly for almost a year and a half, which left his stomach feeling super inflamed.
The 30-year-old then went ahead to dub it a “mistake” amongst other things. “So could you have called it a mistake? Sure. You can call it a bunch of things. But for the most part… piece of it all is that you’re growing and learning… from these moments.” DeChambeau has then, since his defection, tried to improve his image by interacting more with the fans, dishing out content, and starting a YouTube channel, all the while focusing better on his health. His gameplay had improved by bounds, allowing him to average 332.4 yards off the tee.
The 2020 U.S. Open champ also didn’t shy away from urging those who were struggling to work hard on themselves. He said, “If you’re in a bad spot, get some good people around you, give yourself a new perspective on life, and get after it and show them who you truly are.” Sure enough, the golfer himself made the best use of his opportunity through his teammates that he got after joining Crushers GC. DeChambeau had even divulged how they had helped him with mental health struggles during the LIV Golf event in Singapore back in 2023.
All this while, as he tried to improve his image, the LIV Golf Pro slowly became a popular figure in the sport. He had even beat the likes of Xander Schauffele back at the 2024 PGA Championship in terms of popularity, despite the PGA Tour Pro winning the major.

DeChambeau embraces his popularity on the greens
“How much have you embraced the role of of being the showman out there?” asked a curious interviewer, to which DeChambeau swiftly replied, “It’s meant a lot to me.” He further recalled the decisions he made three years ago, including that of joining LIV and the comments he made while pointing out how things could have gone differently: “I tried to show everybody who I was. I didn’t do it the right way and could have done a lot of things better.”

The one-time major champ was, however, very appreciative of his team, which helped him change that image. “I’m lucky enough to have a great team around me to help me move in the right direction with the content that we’re producing, social media, and then also just a great perspective on life.” He had, a while back, launched a YouTube channel where he would challenge many fellow golfers as well as other celebrities. This gained a lot of traction as he saw a tremendous increase in the following.
One can’t help but respect the golfer for the amount of effort he has put in to change his image, which was otherwise not-so-liked. The fans would surely agree with his words: “These combination of things have allowed me to not only have a new perspective but an opportunity to show myself in a different light and to entertain the fans out there on the golf course.”
