In the podcast Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich, golfer Graeme McDowell, gave his honest perspective as to how the legendary golfer has had the most impact on the game.
But then he further goes ahead to compare Woods’ entry and his effect in golf to the effect that LIV Golf has had on the game. On saying this, the 43-year-old professional golfer also nudged at how the game is ready to move on from the legend.
“We’re potentially at one of the most-pivotal moments in our sport since Tiger Woods, in 1996, the greatest player of all time, who transcended our sport, came onto the scene.” continued the LIV defector as he further went on to talk about Woods. He also mentioned how the merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf would be the next pivotal point in golf which can propel the game onto the next level.
The 47-year-old legend first turned pro in 1996 as he started playing on the PGA Tour straightaway. Winning his first Major Championship a year later in 1997 marked the start of what would be a turning point in the history of golf as he went on to win a total of 15 major championships, the last one coming in 2019. To say that the game is ready to move on from the greatest player of all time is something no fan of the legend and sport is ready to accept.

The PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger as a new turning point?
As the LIV Golf star went ahead to compare the effect Woods had on golf with that of LIV Golf, he mentioned how this would mark another decisive moment in the history of the sport. “We’re at a new watershed moment where, hopefully, this game goes to the next level,” continued the Irish golfer as he recounted the past 18 months in the interview.
Putting forward his take on the merger, he mentioned how it is great for the game when a big investment group like the Public Investment Fund (PIF) is willing to spend much money on the sport. Moreover, while admitting that he doesn’t have an idea as to what the whole merger would actually look like and what it would entail, the LIV star said the schedule of every event or tournament should be made a bit smaller so that it can fit as smaller pieces of a big puzzle.
