As the golf world prepares for the season’s end with only a few events left for the year 2023, LIV Golf moves to its next location—Bedminster. However, with the 48-man field opening its fourth last event, the excitement for the anticipated Ryder Cup has already begun. However, before both teams spread their wings on Italian soil, one of the most anticipated questions remains unanswered: Who will make it to the crew on both sides?

Till now, only speculation has provided an answer for the same, especially with regard to LIV golfers. And as per recent reports, that conjecture continues, with Phil Mickelson playing lawyer for his history-making LIV colleague Bryson DeChambeau as he reveals the “element” the LIV Greenbrier victory could bring to the Ryder Cup!

LIV Golf is all set to ignite the game of golf at Trump National Golf Club this week. The exciting gameplay from the last tournament has also made this event reach a fever pitch. A brilliant 58 from Bryson DeChambeau was phenomenal to a level that the golf world couldn’t stop talking about. These praises came especially from some of the best golfers in the world, including Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm.

However, it wasn’t just the one-time major winner’s historic score that impressed Lefty later. In an astonishing encounter recently, he was also left stunned by The Scientist’s hooded shot. Thus, it was not astonishing to witness Mickelson advocating for his fellow leaguemate at the recent press conference featuring the Ryder Cup.

On being asked about DeChambeau, who has been playing well, and what he would bring to the US Ryder Cup Team if he got picked, the 6-time major winner replied honestly. He said, “He [DeChambeau] brings an element of experience and intellectual perspective“. This, the veteran LIV golfer believed, can be a different and unique addition to the team, which will eventually be incredible for the tough competition.

Further showing his support for the LIV players, the 2021 PGA Championship winner added that Brooks Koepka, Talor Gooch, and Dustin Johnson all fall under the same category. They are the players with great caliber to represent the American team, especially referring to DJ’s last Ryder Cup, where he dominated Whistling Straits.

The 45-time PGA Tour winner also added Patrick Reed‘s name to the list as he vouched for LIV golfers and their gameplay. He sounded confident in Reed as he highlighted the golf star’s history at the team tournament. However, he was also quick to stress the importance of chemistry in the team and Zach Johnson’s role in this crucial decision-making.

Despite endorsing Chambeau and others, Mickelson takes a setback from getting involved in Ryder Cup picks

As Phil Mickelson supported his league players by mentioning how a lot of LIV guys would be a great inclusion to the US Team, he immediately took a step back from getting directly involved in the same. The 53-year-old said, “Like I say, I don’t want to get involved, and I don’t want to step on Zach’s toes and tell him what he should or shouldn’t do“.

Lefty believed that, as a captain, Johnson has a difficult job of looking at other intangibles. This is ultimately the individual who will make the best decision for the team that will represent the United States in Rome next month.

Mickelson, himself, felt that he had contributed to the Ryder Cup as much as he could. The 12 or 13 years of his experience at this team event have been great for the American star. However, now he has detached himself from this a little bit, as he wishes for others to take the opportunity. For Lefty, the Ryder Cup is mostly going to be an event he will let himself enjoy as a fan.
