Everyone wants a taste of the Ryder Cup. All golf professionals dream of adding it to their tournament list. But not all are so lucky! LIV golfer Dustin Johnson is aware of how it feels to not be in the squad. Amid his heartbreak due to the iconic event, he gives himself and the crowd a reality check.

After a month-long hiatus, LIV Golf this weekend is faring in Chicago. Fans are excited to see some of the biggest names play at Rich Harvest Farms for the second time after 2022 at the $25 million event. Meanwhile, Dustin Johnson is reminiscing about a different thing!

Johnson is tied for third place at eight under. He will enter the final round at Rich Harvest Farms with the possibility of winning. He’s also had the most birdies (7) at the tournament till now. What might be the reason for his splendid form?

After competing at LIV Golf Bedminster, Johnson chose to take a five-week break from golf. And now he’s back. Both literally and metaphorically, Dustin Johnson is playing his best game now. To talk about that, the 4 Aces GC captain appeared with Fireballs GC’s Abraham Ancer.

The reporter asked him during the press conference, “You had a five-week break. Rest versus rust, how do you feel you’ve come out and overcome that if you had to?” And Dustin Johnson gave a reality check to all his fans and himself in that one response. “For me, hitting it better than I thought I would probably this week, to be honest, I rested a lot in the last five weeks. I’m getting old, though; I’ve got to do that.”

It is one thing to learn that breaks are essential, irrespective of the field. And Dustin Johnson can be a great example. But seeing your heroes get old is heartbreaking, especially when they admit it. And to think of it, unfortunately, his Ryder Cup dreams also got snubbed!

The golf circuit is divided into the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League. Many players switched from the PGA Tour to join the Saudi-backed league last year for various reasons. But Dustin Johnson was left second-guessing his choice a few days ago.

DJ joined LIV Golf for a whopping $150 million, and he fared quite well. With two individual wins overall, one coming in 2023 at LIV Golf Tulsa, the two-time major winner did not have a terrible season at all; however, his international dreams certainly did take a hit!

His record for the patriotic event is 5-0-0, marking him as an experienced player. However, the American team’s captain, Zach Johnson, did not choose him for the 12-player squad. And Dustin Johnson openly admitted that had he been on the PGA Tour, he would have made the Ryder Cup team, even if he had played exactly the same as he did on LIV.

Whether that is true or not, perhaps we will never know, but the one certainty is that DJ won’t be in Rome this year and is not too pleased about it!
