The golfing world is abuzz with the new feats LIV Golf has been reaching. LIV Golf has been making significant strides, and its 2025 season is off to a thrilling start. The inaugural event in Riyadh set the tone from February 6-8, followed by a stop in Adelaide from February 14-16. The next highly anticipated event is slated for March 7-9.

When it comes to viewership, it’s all about chances. LIV Golf’s viewership saw a substantial surge for its Adelaide event, averaging 114,000 viewers on FS1, according to Nielsen data. This marks a significant increase from the previous weekend’s season opener in Riyadh, which drew an average of just 19,000 viewers.

So, despite the challenges, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil remains confident in his league’s ability to attract top talent. As he puts it, “You don’t have to look too far past our leaderboard to know that outside of the majors, if you want to see the best players in the world, there’s only one place to see it, and that’s at LIV.” Case on point. Look at names like Joaquin Niemann, Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeu, and even Brooks Koepka, and you will understand Scott isn’t that wrong.

Unfortunately, that’s also the issue. Outside these big names and a few others, LIV Golf is seriously lacking in firepower when you compare the tour to the PGA Tour, the tour that houses most of the world’s best golfers. Gary Williams of 5 Clubs agrees. While discussing the recent PGA Tour events that brought together seven countries, the host said, “it’s Global representation. It’s elite of the elite. They are coming from all corners, and they ain’t scared.” Sounds like a jab, doesn’t it?

But not everything Scott says is wrong. The Majors are undoubtedly where the golfing world witnesses the crème de la crème in action. With that point, let’s go ahead and see what’s going on with the LIV Golf.

Well, Gary didn’t just compare the PGA Tour to the gold standard. Comparing Scott’s claims to Jack Nicholson’s character in As Good As It Gets, Gary continues, “It’s a great line from a movie as good as it gets from Jack Nicholson… Scott, come on, man… I don’t see the point of saying that other than to see people like me react to it… That line from the new CEO is just that: crazy.” While harsh, that is, in parts, true.

Take the examples of top players from the PGA Tour: Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 PGA TOUR season is off to a strong start, with notable finishes including a T9 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and a T25 at the WM Phoenix Open. A T3 finish at The Genesis Invitational highlights Scottie Scheffler’s consistent play. Rory McIlroy kicked off the 2025 PGA TOUR season with a dominant win at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He also secured a T4 finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and a T17 finish at The Genesis Invitational.

While the banter between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour seems endless, there is something else that the fans of both tours can look forward to. If the agreements reach a final stage, then we can safely say that the golf world is finally on the cusp of a seismic shift! After months of speculation, a deal between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is reportedly just around the corner – and it could be announced sooner rather than later, possibly even before the Masters in Augusta National!
