Bryson DeChambeau has been on fire these days. The golfer is currently leading the field at the top of the scorecard after 16 holes of play on Day 3. However, not everything seems to be going well for the athlete. Be it bad luck or misfortune, reports now indicate the golfer to have been hit with a setback on Saturday at the ongoing U.S. Open, which, if taken a turn for the worse, might even end in a withdrawal.
A tweet was shared by Todd Lewis, a reporter at Golf Channel & NBC, on his X handle (formerly Twitter), mentioning the same. It talked about how the LIV golfer was reportedly suffering from a health scare at the ongoing major, which he came to know after speaking with DeChambeau’s team: “Was told he woke up with discomfort in his right hip this morning. Has been treated on the course. Was told by rules official Bryson is allowed two five-minute treatment sessions.”

Back when the LIV Golf Pro was on the par-3 ninth hole, he had reportedly requested the presence of his physio, as per Jim ‘Bones’ MacKay, the on-course reporter for NBC Sports. He was able to receive the treatment at the 11th tee soon after he made a birdie on the par-5, 10th. Although the athlete had apparently requested the network’s on-ground camera crew to stay, he was spotted getting proper care by the drone.
The question then naturally arises: how did the treatment go? Well, even though the details of the injury haven’t been revealed yet, the golfer sure was able to receive the much-needed treatment after seeing his subsequent shots. Bryson DeChambeau drove the ball a whopping 359 yards down the middle of the fairway at the following par-4, 11th hole, to then hole the spheroid for a birdie at the same. The golfer later went ahead to card another birdie at the par-4, 14th to increase his total figures to 8-under, becoming the first golfer to do so this week. Unfortunately, a double bogey at the par-4, 16th, pulled him back to a score of 6-under overall. DeChambeau quickly recovered on the next hole, carding a birdie on the 17th, and completed the round with a par on the 18th, finishing with a total score of 3-under 67.

The 2020 U.S. Open champ now has just one more five-minute treatment session. Meanwhile, his fans would be desperately hoping he gets through the day so that the golfer can get proper rest to alleviate any worries about withdrawal. But if he is to do so, then that would make him the second LIV Golf Pro to pull out of the event, following the likes of Spaniard Jon Rahm.
Will Bryson DeChambeau follow Jon Rahm’s suit?
The 2022 Masters champ was forced to withdraw from the ongoing major after he suffered an injury in his foot at the LIV Golf event in Houston. He was spotted wincing after his tee shot at the par-3, 7th hole at the Golf Club of Houston, following which he pulled out of the event and then announced his intention to do the same at the 2024 U.S. Open as well. Later, the athlete was confirmed to be suffering from a lingering foot infection.

“I have decided it is best for my long-term health, to withdraw from this week’s US Open Championship,” announced a disappointed Rahm while mentioning how he took the decision after consulting with numerous doctors and his team. He further added, “To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement! I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I’m sure will be an amazing championship!”
Although DeChambeau’s injury does not seem as severe as that of his fellow LIV golfer, it is concerning regardless, especially after watching him dominate the course over the past few days. Even so, one can’t help but watch in awe as the golfer continues to top the leaderboard, even after the setback!
