Scottie Scheffler was undoubtedly the most talked about man in the golf world. Especially so after his scintillating performance on the greens carding 12 top-10 finishes, including 5 wins. But now, post the 2024 U.S. Open, it looks like another golfer has managed to shoot past the current world No. 1 in popularity; none other than Bryson DeChambeau.

The LIV Golf Pro had already managed to become a fan favorite after his eye-catching gameplay in Valhalla at the 2024 PGA Championship. However, what seemed to have sealed the deal was his recent triumph at the third major of the season which he was able to clinch with a hard-fought battle.

The past 24 hours have seen nothing short of growth for DeChambeau, who claimed his second major title of his career at the 124th U.S. Open. A report by Joe Pompliano indicates the golfer’s name is trending as search interest on Google has apparently gone up a whopping +250%. The sports world appears to have shown an increased fascination with the 30-year-old, especially after he beat pros like Scheffler and Rory McIlroy to win the event.

That’s not all. His increased popularity has helped the Stitch X Crushers GC products to have been reportedly sold out. The luxury golf apparel company had become the official on-course apparel partner of the team in February 2024. The collaboration helped the company deliver custom products for the team, which were made available later on sale to the public (and are now sold out!). The partnership helped produce a co-designed assortment of men’s custom on-course polos, driver head covers, and other custom products.

The golfer had slowly been growing as a content creator on YouTube with his channel while interacting with his fans over various platforms on the internet. DeChambeau’s recent victory also helped him on that front, as he reportedly gained 25,000 Twitter (now X) followers and YouTube subscribers each while raking in double that amount of people as fans on Instagram, at 100,000. He now boasts 402.8K followers on X, 1.3 million followers on Instagram, and 724K subscribers on the video-sharing platform. Moreover, he was able to join the TODAY Show where he discussed his 55-yard bunker shot on the 18th and his late father’s inspiration, not to mention how he was also interviewed on the Pat McAfee Show.

Although the recent triumph was the final push he needed in order to jump in popularity, it’s natural to wonder how he was able to pull it off. Curiosity piques more when one recounts him having an image of a not-so-liked golfer back in 2022 following his LIV Golf defection. Well, Bryson DeChambeau himself had the answer to that question!

How did DeChambeau captivate the hearts of fans?

“I’ve worked really hard to have people help hopefully understand who I am a little bit better,”  revealed the 2-time major champ after the third round of the 2024 PGA Championship. He went ahead to add how the content he dishes out on the internet has helped him do so; “YouTube has been a great platform to help that out. The Break 50 series are a lot of fun. I love doing it. It’s a lot of fun. It’s a challenge that’s never been done nor accomplished without any strokes.”

He further pointed out how he keeps the fans as his top priority over any wins. “It just keeps my brain fresh and in an entertainment mode, and realizing what the game is all about,” divulged the athlete, “not just for myself and winning money or winning trophies but entertaining, as well. … But being able to entertain the fans is what we’re all here to do, and I think that’s what’s the most important thing.”

Such a mindset has undoubtedly helped Bryson DeChambeau garner so much love from the community. This was especially evident on Sunday when he went amidst the crowd to let them touch the trophy so as to make them feel as if they were also a part of his win. Well, it’s just as Joe Pompliano said, “Not bad, Not bad!”
