The first one in North America drew a chunk of LIV Golf pros in the field. Among the notables was Sergio Garcia, who wanted to book his spot for the 25th consecutive year. Patrick Reed, who hadn’t missed a major since the 2014 Masters, was also in the field. Both, however, will miss a trip to Pinehurst No. 2.

Garcia missed his chance after crashing out of a seven-man playoff. The Spanish International will be the first alternate at this year’s US Open. The Spaniards, Fireballs teammate, Eugenio Chacarra, though, booked his first Major spot.

Reed, on the other hand, withdrew from the 36-hole event. Per USGA’s rule, golfers can’t sign up for another qualifier after withdrawing from one. Although neither USGA nor Reed offered any reason for pulling out, the former Masters champion was at Valhalla till Sunday.

Among the others who missed their chances at Gold Course were, Carlos Ortiz, Caleb Surratt, Kevin Na, Danny Lee, Abraham Ancer, and Brendan Steele. A handful of their peers, too, participated on the other side of the globe.
