Ever since the PGA Tour struck a deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) over a month ago, the golf community has been aching to find out the specifics of the merger. While a great deal of information still remains under the covers, the recent probe into the deal by the US Senate has brought many mindblowing findings to light.

During the course of the investigation, 276 pages worth of documents containing detailed communications, proposals, and other key points regarding the merger were released to the public. One of the biggest highlights of the documents, however, was a proposal involving none other than Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. While McIlroy has spoken out since, the continued silence of Woods may ultimately prove to be a huge disappointment for PGAT loyalists!

On Tuesday, representatives of the PGA Tour visited Washington, DC, for a Senate hearing on its planned partnership with LIV Golf. Representatives of PIF were a no-show. PGAT commissioner Jay Monahan was not present either. However, the documents released by the US Senate during the process gave the golf world much to talk about. Per the revelations, PGAT loyalists Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were hot topics in PIF’s conversations with the Tour.

LIV is proposing that Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods would own teams and play in at least to 10 LIV events,” one of the proposals had said. Another key proposition was for a  “large-scale LIV style team global event” involving LIV golfers, PGA Tour pros, and even LPGA stars.

Since the revelations, World No. 3 McIlroy has once again stressed his disdain for LIV. Woods, meanwhile, is yet to break his silence, leading many to think that the 15-time major winner may eventually come around to the controversial merger. The only time he did speak out was when a document containing an anti-LIV talking memo was leaked. Allegedly, the golfer was to deliver a rousing speech against LIV Golf during a players’ meeting last year. Woods, however, took to Twitter earlier this month to vehemently deny the memo’s existence.

Rory McIlroy divulges his apathetic feelings toward LIV

Despite his fealty to PGA Tour over the years, Tiger Woods’ eerie silence pertaining to the $3,000,000,000 PGAT-LIV deal has made it impossible for fans to gauge his reaction. But Rory McIlroy has been very outspoken regarding his feelings towards LIV in the wake of the merger. Mere hours after the PGA Tour announced its plans to unite with the Saudi-backed league in June, the 4-time major winner spoke out about feeling like a “sacrificial lamb.

The Northern Irish player isn’t keen on playing at LIV either. “If LIV Golf was the last place to play golf on earth, I would retire,” he told Golf Channel‘s Rex Hoggard on Thursday. “That’s how I feel about it. Seriously.”

The documents that the US Senate released on Tuesday also showed that McIlroy had met PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan in 2022. It was reportedly a “very cordial and constructive” affair.
