The thrilling LIV Golf Bedminster event is over, and Cameron Smith emerged victorious, marking his third victory in the backway league. The moment was a dual celebration moment for Smith as his team, Rippers GC, secured its maiden win, and the celebration was nothing less than insane. However, on the other side of the spectrum lay a shattered dream—that of Phil Mickelson redeeming himself in the Saudi League.

For the loyal Mickelson fans and the golfer himself, the defeat was an unfortunate one. But even in the turmoil of the gambling allegations and his recent loss, Lefty proved what his fans meant to him and swayed them his way with a kind gesture!

The 53-year-old is undoubtedly one of the biggest golfers, with a career spanning over three decades. He has earned many accolades and victories to his name and has built very loyal fans who usually refer to him as Phil The Thrill. Though the golfer has been a little less on the thrill ever since he made the switch from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf, he has not been able to secure a win in two years.

Moreover, his plight just doesn’t end with his winless streak, since he is also in the middle of the betting allegations for almost wagering on the 2012 Ryder Cup. Despite all that, Mickelson put on a brave face and played well this week. He even made it to the top of the leaderboard, tied for second ahead of Sunday. However, all of it somehow collapsed during the last round.

The six-time major champion entered the final round with zeal to win, but things did not go his way, and that did not impact his love for his fans. As reported by Mike McAllister, the Editorial Director of LIV Golf, Mickelson put on a brave face after he signed his scorecard after the final hole, and instead of dwelling on his loss, he did something incredible. Lefty went straight to the autograph line and signed the memorabilia for the fans.

With this small yet heartfelt gesture towards his fans, Phil Mickelson showed what his fans mean to him and how much he adores them. Though he put on a brave face, the golf veteran was very excited for his Sunday round in Bedminster. Losing is a part of the game, but it is indeed disheartening for him.

Where did things go downhill for the HyFlyers’ skipper?

Sunday’s round started out well for the golf veteran, but it quickly took a toll on the par-3 7th hole. It was in this hole when he went down the leaderboard and just could not recover. In a matter of a few minutes, Mickelson fell down the leaderboard by five shots. Initially, he dunked two balls into the water on the 191-yard par-3 and missed the shot by several yards.

The nightmare continued when he put his ball back into the play, but it spun off the front of the green and found its way into the thick roughs. In hopes of still making something out of the shot, Mickelson hit a 10-foot putt for quadruple bogey, but the ball did not find its way to the hole.

He ended the unfortunate hole with a quintuple-bogey 8. The final scorecard of the golfer showed a score of 75, and he was tied for the ninth position, his first top 10 of the year.
