Did Jeff Hatton just outshine his son Tyrrell at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship?

You have seen him angry. You’ve seen him whipping out a few F-bombs on the course. Maybe a bit of a C-bomb as well. But have you ever seen him speechless? Yes, we are talking about Tyrrell Hatton and no one else. Hard to believe? Well, look no more, for the LIV Golf Pro was left shocked at the recent Pro-Am competition, courtesy of his dad Jeff Hatton.

It was the second day at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. And the Hatton duo had teed off in Carnoustie for the second round. It was then that the golfer’s dad surprised his son by holing his ball for an eagle. It’s “unbelievable,” right? Is that all the reason why the LIV Golf Pro was shocked? Well, it’s just that the pro had only managed to card a birdie on the same hole. And this led to the total team score for the hole coming out as a birdie-net eagle.

As the rules of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship go, the Pro-Am event uses the best-ball format. Clarification: Both the players in a team will play the same hole. In the case of the figures, the professional’s lower score and the amateur’s net score will be taken into account as the total score of the team. Needless to say, the shot sure does warrant a shocked reaction!

The Tyrrell Hatton & Jeff Hatton combo has managed to finish T7 after the second day of play. They did so by carding 21-under par 123 after Friday’s round of golf at the DP World Tour ‘Back 9’ event, with the duo putting up figures of 61-62 over the two days. Unsurprisingly, the professional’s dad played a crucial role in them making it to the top rungs of the leaderboard.

It’s impressive. Although the LIV Golf Pro was left surprised, he would also agree with our verdict. Yes, Tyrrell Hatton also would not shy away from appreciating a good putt, especially if it is from his father. Hopefully, the pair can pull off an even better performance at the Old Course in St. Andrews on day 3 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, provided Hatton Jr. keeps calm throughout.

An ever-hot-headed Tyrrell Hatton on the greens

Did Jeff Hatton just outshine his son Tyrrell at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship?

Have an interesting take?

The 32-year-old has, many times, been spotted having an outburst on the greens. And when that happens, you will be able to hear the athlete using the F-word. Back at the 2024 Sentry (yes, when he was still a PGA Tour Pro), when his shot led to the ball landing on the greens only for it to bounce back into the roughs, take a guess at what he said—a big “f**k you!”

That’s not all. Tyrrell Hatton, when he teed off in Miami after joining LIV Golf, failed to contain his anger after his drive at the par-4, 14th hole. His reaction? “F–king what a w–k bounce that was, if it f–king bounces left it’s fine… F–K YOU! The f–king c–t.”

Anyhow, chances of him dishing out the same would be low, especially since his father would be beside him at the DP World Tour event. Even so… do keep an ear out if you are curious enough!
