Sergio García and Jon Rahm are undoubtedly buzzing with excitement as they prepare to tee off at the iconic Real Club Valderrama. Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion, is no stranger to Valderrama. Having triumphed here three times on the European Tour, he considers this course one of his favorites. As the 11x PGA Tour champion puts it, “Yeah, from the beginning, from the first time I played. Just amazing shape. It was love at first shot. I love Valderrama..”
However, Jon Rahm, on the other side, has a bleak memory of their course dating back to the 1997 Ryder Cup. Who would have known the young lad would be a future golfer? He recalled, “Two of my dads friends were present in the Ryder Cup and none of them have ever seen a golf course in their life. They were just in the area on vacation and heard of the Ryder Cup and came and watched. That’s how my dad’s friends started playing golf and how they convinced my dad to start playing golf and therefore why I play golf, right.”
He further added to his excitement, “Well, it feels great. It feels great. One of the very exciting, one of the many things about joining live was coming here and playing in front of a Spanish crowd, especially on a level of event and level of competition that I had not really yet enjoyed, right.”
