It’s bad news for the golfers! The circuit had earlier announced its intention to provide full tour status to the top 5 on the Q-school rankings along with exempt status for the next 40, surprising many players. However, it seems that the latter set of players who are aspiring to get roped into the PGA Tour would be facing a setback of sorts with the new rules that were announced not too long ago!
In a surprising update to the earlier announcement, the Korn Ferry Tour declared its intention to count the already exempt players as part of the “next 40” finishes. However, such news would prove to be nothing short of a shock for many aspiring athletes, who might even consider jumping to LIV Golf if it proves too much of a setback!

The hype has reached a peak in the golfing world as the final stage of the Q-school presented by the Korn Ferry Tour is reaching its final round on Monday. Moreover, those in the top 5 and the following 40 would have every reason to celebrate since the former would be awarded full PGA Tour status while the latter group would receive KFT status. However, it seems as if the rest of the field would not be so lucky!
An update was shared on X a while back mentioning how the handing out of exempt cards for the developmental tour would only be included for the next 40 players after the top five. Moreover, those who already have a KFT status in the group would “still count against the “next 40” that get” exempted for the upcoming season.
For example, if a certain number of the professionals in the 40 players are already exempt from playing in the Korn Ferry Tour, the number of cards that would be handed out would have an exact number of the same less. It appears that the news has come as nothing short of a reality check for the Korn Ferry Tour professionals who are still outside the top forty-five and aiming to finish inside the same.
Confirmed:
Players who are already exempt will still count against the “next 40” that get KFT status.
So if 15 players who are already exempt, finish in the next 40, then 15 less exempt cards will be handed out.
It doesnt mean a ton for starts (tho it could ) the huge

Well, a setback like this would only push athletes to look for other alternatives for the same – enter LIV Golf! With the amount of benefits and money that the Saudi-backed circuit provides, it makes sense if the PGA Tour aspirants get disappointed with the new update.
