After the NFL regular season started off gloriously, an important message reached football fans. The message, however, is not from a football player but from a golfer. Recently, ‘Lefty’ Phil Mickelson has written a rather long and emotional note on his Twitter, which surprisingly has everything to do with betting and addictive behavior.

Mickelson has known the damage it can cause in a person’s life firsthand. In the note, he opens up about the same, answering some questions that rose to the surface after writers Alan Shipnuck and Billy Walters wrote about the LIV star’s “addiction”!

Unless you are new to the golf scene, it is probable that you have heard of Lefty’s gambling issues. Even amid the alleged allegations against him for losing millions, Mickelson has never shied away from his gambling problems. And now, with the NFL season alive again, he has taken the responsibility to address betting enthusiasts and to clear the air around his past.

In his tweet, Mickelson explained that he regretted having crossed the line of moderation and advised the readers to stay within the line. He announced how he would refrain from betting since he obviously had an addiction pattern to his betting. However, he also emphasized that the losses never amounted to disturbing his financial security, thus voiding Shipnuck and Walters’ claims!

He expressed how money has never been an issue for him personally. “The money wasn’t ever the issue since our financial security has never been threatened,” he said, and went on to describe what actually was the issue—the lack of his presence—that had been so hurtful to his close ones. “‘You’re here but you’re not with us,’ is something I’ve been told often throughout my addiction.

This response comes after allegations accusing him of throwing huge amounts of money into betting. The alleged amount of losses reaches the millions, and Mickelson’s denial of facing threats to his financial security clearly denies the allegations as well. However, the golfer has never denied that his gambling is an issue. He knows it is, but thanks to his family, he had all the help he needed during such turbulent times!
