Wyndham Clark’s stars are finally shining after years of grinding and hard work. And 2023 has proved to be a turning point in his life. Last month he gained widespread attention with his win at the Wells Fargo Championship.

And now with the much-deserved win at the US Open, Clark is the talk of the town and is being congratulated by many for his feat. LIV defector Graeme McDowell too took to Twitter to congratulate Wyndham on his amazing success but sadly his gesture backfired and he ended up in a heated exchange with a netizen.

Golf is hard and Graeme McDowell understands that. The Irishman, who himself enjoyed the US Open title in 2010 at Pebble Beach, failed to qualify for this year’s tournament. During the qualifying round which he played in Dallas with Sergio Garcia, McDowell fell short.

But he showed great sportsmanship as he congratulated Clark on his first major win. He wrote on Twitter: “Congrats @Wyndham Clark. Good dude. Stripe show. Deserved. Never give up. Golf is hard.”

Graeme was full of nice compliments for Clark but he was attacked by a Twitter user who asked him a stinging question: “Are you still playing golf yourself?”

McDowell decided to teach the man a lesson and hit back. He wrote: “I play 54 holes from time to time. Nearly as many as you have followers. Be well.”

McDowell indeed destroyed him with those two lines.

McDowell’s move to LIV last year after a rough phase in golf

Last year McDowell was among those PGA players who decided to move to the Saudi-backed league. Earlier this year he was a guest at the ‘Five Clubs Podcast’ hosted by Gary Williams where he explained what forced him to change leagues.

He said: “Honestly, I played 18 months of the worst golf I have probably my whole career right after Covid. There are no guarantees in this sport. When something came along and offered me nothing but upside, it was a very compelling opportunity at that point in my career.”

Financial compensation was a big reason why many players made the move last year. Nevertheless, things are slowly changing after the merger between LIV, PGA and DP World Tour. And this latest act of McDowell could be hailed as a friendly step towards the rival party.
