Will Lilia Vu's gear choices give her the edge she needs to dominate the Solheim Cup?

Winning the crucial points in the Solheim Cup for Team USA is never easy, especially when it’s time for revenge against the Europeans. To achieve this, the 12 Team USA golfers will need the best clubs and top-notch skills to defeat the outsiders at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club for the first time in the past four editions. World No. 2, Lilia Vu, has prepared her arsenal to face her competitors and bring the prestigious cup back home.

The first thing every golfer needs is a driver. Vu has switched from the TaylorMade Stealth Plus to the newly released TaylorMade Qi10. The 26-year-old has equipped the driver with a Fujikura Ventus TR Blue 6S shaft and set it at 9° loft. The TM Qi10 is perfect for Vu to control her off-the-tee speed and the trajectory of the ball, as the driver provides optimum low spin with better speed. It’s priced at $599.99.

Once she reaches the fairway, Vu has two options to choose from. Her bag contains two utility or hybrid clubs: the Callaway Apex UW in 15° and 17°. These clubs are versatile and were made with feedback from PGA Tour golfers. Costing $299.99 per club, the utility woods offer a high launch from the fairway and consistent spin for a better approach to the green. Vu equips them with the same shaft as before.

The Srixon ZX7 MKII has been the Golf WRX member’s choice and is one of the irons on the Golf Digest’s Hot List Gold Medal. Vu uses it from the 5-iron to the approach wedge. But that’s not all; she also uses the Srixon Z585 4-iron. The former gives Vu better control, while the latter offers more precision and speed. The ZX7 MKII costs $1,199 a set, and the Z585 retails for around $120 per club. Lilia Vu’s arsenal for redemption doesn’t stop here; the main club in her bag is still to be revealed.

What is the putter used by Lilia Vu?

Before exploring the putter, let’s look at the club Lilia Vu uses for shots stuck in bunkers. Paired with the KBS Tour-C Taper Lite S shaft, the world No. 2 uses Titleist Vokey Design SM9 wedges with 56° and 60° lofts. The designer of the wedges, Bob Vokey, said that with these, the pros will surely hit the ball closer to the hole than with any other wedges. Why? The Vokey Design wedges have a forward center of gravity, allowing for constant solid contact and controlled ball flight. They cost $149 per club.

Last but not least in Vu’s bag is the Scotty Cameron GOLO 5 putter. The putter was the talk of the town when it was released in 2014, but even after a decade, it’s still in Vu’s bag. That’s because the GOLO 5 provides perfect balance and control to drain a birdie or a long-distance putt. It’s priced at $410.
