This one is a little emotional because Lexi Thompson has wowed the golf world since she was a young girl breaking records, and now, about 16 years later, she is saying goodbye to professional golf. As the sun sets on a wonderful career, let’s take a look at what the 11-time LPGA winner has in her bag for the very last time.
Lexi Thompson has been a Puma and Cobra-sponsored athlete; she has stuck with the brands as they have with her for much of her career. She is also not one to chop and change her setup on a whim and has played with some of these clubs for years. However, there is one change she made in 2024, which we will get to at the end.
What Lexi Thompson uses for long distances and precision

Let’s start with the big dog. Lexi Thompson will still be using the Cobra RadSpeed Driver, which was released in 2021. It typically has a loft of 10.5 degrees, but Thompson delofts it to about 8 degrees and uses a Fujikura Black 6 X shaft. She has said that the driver gives her less spin and more distance, and provides her with more consistency. It has a custom weight setup with 16 grams in the heel and 3 grams in the toe. The driver costs $69.99.
Her 3 Wood is a 2015 Cobra LTD Fairway Wood with a typical 13-degree loft and is her go-to club. She uses a Graphite Design Tour AD GP 6 S. The stock version of this cost about $299 in 2015 but has probably gone down almost 10 years later. She then goes on to a 2 Iron, which is a 2023 UST Mamiya Recoil 55 F4 shafted Cobra King Tec Utility Iron that costs about $229. She has called it amazing and hits it around 210-215 yards.

For her irons, she has stuck with the old and trusted Cobra S2 Forged Irons that she’s been using since around 2009. She has said that they offer a lot of forgiveness and have a cavity-back design. She uses the Project X Rifle 5.0 shafts and Tour Velvet grips by Golf Pride. Her irons go from 4 to pitching wedges, sometimes without the 5 iron to use a variety of wedges.
As for her short game, she goes with 4 or 5 wedges, subbing out fairway woods or the aforementioned 5 irons. These are the 48, 52, 56, and 60-degree Cobra King raw wedges with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts. These are somewhat older wedges, but they seem to work pretty well for Thompson. For her putting needs, she uses a custom Scotty Cameron GoLo N5 putter, which has a mallet design and probably costs upwards of $1,000 or maybe more as it is a limited edition piece.
The smallest piece of equipment but maybe the biggest change

Can Lexi Thompson's patriotic bag inspire a win in her last Solheim Cup? What do you think?
Have an interesting take?
Lexi Thompson’s biggest change is not her new 2 Iron, which she so relies on for filling the gap between her irons and woods, but the piece of equipment that she would only have to use one of. This is the actual ball that she has changed since last December when she split with Bridgestone. She now uses the Maxfli Tour Series ball, which she said has exceeded her expectations.
She has also said that it gives her higher ball speed as well as more control. Thus, she has more control over the greens and more yards off the tee. As her potentially last Solheim Cup kicks off, this is what she will be taking to Robert Trent Jones Golf Club to beat the Europeans and win the Cup for the first time since 2017.
