Lexi Thompson will not be playing full-time golf anymore. On May 28, the LPGA Tour professional announced that the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship would be her last event as a full-time golfer. Well, there have been several retirement announcements, and yet Golfers have come back to play, but as it turns out, that will not be the case with the 29 29-year-old Pro. She will be abiding by her commitments. After watching her at the CME Group Tour Championship, Thompson will be seen teeing off at the 2024 Grant Thornton Invitational partnered with Rickie Fowler. A question was posed to Lexi Thompson asking, “I feel like we talk about this every week. This is the last one. How are you feeling?”
Addressing the media at the pre-tournament press conference, she responded, ” It’s just great to be back here this week. I did say just from a full-time schedule.” Thompson further added, “Just going to take that time for myself, spend it with my family and friends and really just decompress and make sure that if or when I do decide to play, that I’m ready and I’m in a good mind space. Yeah, we’ll see. I’m going to take it day by day.” But well, as excited as she was about playing at the Tiburon Golf Club, her recent update has left the fans worried.
A few hours ago, Lexi Thompson took to her official Instagram account and shared a story where her eyes looked completely sore. She sat with a bowl of chicken noodles soup, and wrote, “Let this chicken noodle soup help my throat feel better.” This implies that Lexi Thompson will have to contend with sickness while playing at the event. The event is all set to kick start in just a few hours on Friday. Fans are still hoping for a speedy recovery for the LPGA Tour star.

Lexi Thompson is still somewhat in good form. Out of the eighteen events that she appeared in, she made cuts in twelve of them. And while she did not grab any wins this year, the 29 YO finished in the top 10 in four of the events. Then why is she quitting so early?
Lexi Thompson plans to spend time with family
Lexi Thompson shared that she has been thinking about retirement for several months but she isn’t completely walking away from the sport. While she will no longer compete as a full-time golfer, she’s uncertain how much golf she’ll play after this season. “I’m taking it day by day right now,” Thompson said at the U.S. Women’s Open. “I’m not going to say yes or no on how many events I’ll play or if I do. I’m just going to take it day by day and see how I feel, especially going into next year, but I’m very content with this being my last full-time schedule year.”
She also shared an Instagram post stating how she has been under the spotlight since the age of 12. This resulted in her being under constant scrutiny and also did not allow her to have a regular childhood. However, she is still thankful for the game of golf. But she thinks that now her time as a full-time golfer must be over, and she is looking forward to the next chapter of her life. “Time with family, friends, and my trusted companion Leo. I will always look for ways to contribute to the sport and inspire the next generation of golfers. And of course, I look forward to a little time for myself,” she wrote. Her fans are hoping she can give a memorable performance at the Grant Thornton Invitational before she retires. What do you have to say about it? Let us know in the comments section below!
