Lexi Thompson appeared on the greens one last time as a full-time professional a few hours ago. Although the result at the Tiburon Golf Club was not as she expected, she had a lot of fun playing with Rickie Fowler. And well, she did not miss out on her tradition either. Well, what is her tradition? About fifteen years ago, when the 29 YO was a rising star, she spotted pictures of little girls holding up her shoes.
She gave them away at every event where she met a cute little fan. Even at the CME Group Tour Championship, she packed all the essentials. “I have my usual gloves and shoes to be signed for all the fans,” she said. “I’ll be giving out some shoes. I don’t have that many anymore. I’ve given out so many.”
But what makes her follow such a unique tradition? Well, as the LPGA Tour member repeatedly stated how her fans are the most special people in her entire journey, she said, “To see the smile on fans’s faces and the impact, that means more to me than anything.” She even added how she is going to miss this tradition the most.

And well, for one last time, she gets to do it as a full-time professional golfer. As the final round of the $4 million event, the 2024 Grant Thornton Invitational concluded, Lexi Thompson went up to a little fan and clicked a picture with her. She put up the photo as a story on her official Instagram account.
In the picture, Thompson held a placard made by the little girl, which said, “Go Lexi. I made a special mug just for you.” And the girl was holding the shoes Thompson gave away, as they both smiled. Lexi Thompson wrote, “Had to give a pair of shoes to my biggest fan out there.” The tradition is so special for her that she has all the pictures of these little girls holding her shoes on her desk.
Well, it is not just Lexi Thompson, who loves her fans so deeply. Her fans have always made her feel special even after she announced her sudden retirement.

Lexi Thompson was part of the US Team one last time at the 2024 Solheim Cup. When Lexi Thompson was introduced at the Solheim Cup for the final time on Sunday, the crowd at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club erupted in applause for the iconic golfer. As she made her way to the first tee, Thompson gestured for the crowd to keep cheering, waving to express her gratitude. Some fans even held up a flag that read, “Thank you, Lexi!”
After speaking to the reporters about her journey and unexpected retirement, she even broke down at the US Women’s Open. She hit a bogey for her final hole in the tournament and was, of course, disappointed. But her fans were still proud of her, and they applauded her. As she walked away, a fan shouted, “We’ll miss you, Lexi.”
After her round, the 29-year-old was asked by reporters what advice she would give her younger self after 17 years on tour. “I’d probably tell her to just enjoy life,” Thompson said, her voice wavering as she thought about her upcoming retirement. “Be grateful for everything you have, and truly appreciate every experience, especially the ones you get to have out here.”
