Since her debut on the LPGA Tour in 2012, Lexi Thompson has been fortunate enough to be part of every Solheim Cup since then. So far, the 11-time LPGA Tour winner has lifted the coveted cup twice in her career. In just five days, she will compete once again at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club for another victory, which would mark her seventh appearance at the Solheim Cup.
The 29-year-old announced her retirement from professional golf on social media back in May, set to take effect with the 2025 season. But before that, Thompson will seek redemption from the 2023 loss and hopes to win another Solheim Cup for Team USA, as the third time might be the charm. Amidst the intense preparation for the prestigious event, the LPGA star was asked about the most patriotic golfers she has played with. The two that Thompson had in mind were Morgan Pressel, who is now Team USA’s vice-captain, and Paula Creamer.
Thompson recalled the face paints and USA tattoos that the two players used to wear at the Solheim Cup, which were once not allowed by US captain Juli Inkster in 2015. She expressed that they all get super into the patriotic spirit, but “It’s just a matter of our own ways.” Furthermore, Thompson added that some enjoy being more girlier but some don’t. At the end of the day, “We just love representing our country every time we tee it up,” said the 29-year-old proudly.

It might be an emotional Solheim Cup for Thompson this time, as it will be her last. But as destiny would have it, it will be on home soil with American fans cheering from the gallery. The 1-time major winner will surely want to win as well. As moving as it will be for Thompson, it will also affect the fans. However, they shouldn’t be too disappointed because Thompson has better news for them.
Lexi Thompson greets fans with unexpected news
Yes, Lexi Thompson’s name will not be in most of the LPGA Tour events next season. But it might still appear. In an interview with Golf.com, the 29-year-old revealed her plans for the upcoming year, and people might have misunderstood her retirement announcement. Thompson said, “I’m just stepping away from a full-time schedule. I might tee it up a few more times next year. But you know I’m going to take time for myself time away and if I feel good about it… if I don’t, I still want to tee it up and play in front of my fans, I will.”

So, there it is—the 11-time LPGA Tour winner would still play professional golf in 2025, but not as much as she has been. What will her full schedule be about then? Well, Thompson revealed at the AIG Women’s Open that her focus has shifted to getting married, starting her family, and settling down. She also conveyed plans to travel more without golf and enjoy her time off.
And for her fans and fitness enthusiasts alike, Thompson has been working on a fitness app called the Lexi Fitness app. This will teach people some of the golf drills the LPGA star does before and after events, along with her routine. So even though Thompson will be seen less in 2025, she will still stay connected to golf and her fans. Who knows? She may even don the captain’s hat for the 2026 Solheim Cup in the Netherlands.
