Two months ago, Phil Mickelson engaged in a Twitter Feud with his biggest rival, Brandel Chamblee. In a long Twitter thread, the ex-golf pro expressed his deep disdain for LIV Golf, and Phil Mickelson chimed in. Their Twitter spat resulted in the LIV star getting blocked by the analyst and Chamblee getting a lot of hate for his bold statements. However, that hasn’t stopped Chamblee from publicly posting his controversial views!
Recently, the CBS analyst again drew up a take that is bound to split the golf world in two. This time, however, his bold statements were not just about LIV but about something that affected the entire golf world: the majors! The current ‘majors’ basket consists of the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA Championship. However, Chamblee now proposes the addition of another, and the golf world has gone berserk about it!
Would a ‘fifth’ golf major be the ultimate test for professional golfers?

Chamblee, of course, is no stranger to controversial takes. And his latest stands testament to that! As per NUCLR Golf’s recent tweet, the golf analyst claimed that the sport now needed a fifth major. Lefty’s rival proposed that the Player Champion, which is already deemed by many to be ‘golf’s fifth major’ be officially converted into a major.
“5 MAJORS — Brandel Chamblee says it’s time to add a 5th major,” read the Tweet. However, the anit-LIV analyst had a way to keep the defectors a step below that. “LIV has managed to poach some compelling players away from the PGA Tour & it’s made the majors more compelling… I can’t think of a better way to do that than making The Players Championship a Major. It should have been a major eons ago & in my view it is, but it should have the designation, the PGA Tour has the power to do that, the players have the power to do that.”

TPC Sawgrass, like every year, hosted the Players Championship. And Ponte Vedra Beach, for the first time last year, had absentees in the form of the LIV Golf players. Chamblee’s chant for the fifth major also reflected the grudge he held against the new series. How did the fans feel about this? Let’s find out!
Where is this discourse about the Players Championship headed?
Chamblee’s proposal to integrate the Players Championship with the four Majors left many of the fans divided in their feelings. And rightly so; after all, the majors have decades of history in the sport! Here are some of the responses the Tweet received:
One user responded, claiming the analyst was like “a little child stomping their feet because he can’t get his way.”
This is the definition of a little child stomping their feet because he can’t get his way. Nobody has turned out more of a loser this past year more than Brandel, and I have enjoyed every second of it.

Other fans could not just stand to watch things unfold.
Brandel just let it fucking go bro

I know it’s Brandels job to be a talking head..but, man, he’s exhausting.
He’s be a great candidate to join Skip Bayless so we’d never have to watch him again…— BRENDEN CORR (@DadBodBaba) July 19, 2023
One fan sarcastically remarked on Brandel’s fixation on the LIV.
He still talking about LIV?
— Brad Ralston (@BradBralston) July 19, 2023
Many other fans also expressed their frustration.
I hope his excellency sends Brandel into exile.

Piss off Brandel, if you’re going to introduce a new major, it should be one that rotates via members of the International Golf Federation. Excluding obviously those where there is a major already.
That would be truly global and would truly grow the game.

While many golf enthusiasts appeared enraged at the suggestion of the rival of Phil Mickelson, there were some individuals who chimed in with advice.
If you really want a 5th major make it outside the US. Already has 3. Change the landscape a little. Mainland Europe? Asia-Pacific?

That course is too gimmicky to be a Major

TPC Sawgrass – like it or not, think it's good track or not – it has a rich history! A history many other courses can't claim. So there's at least that.

There are many underlying factors that prevent the Players Championship from becoming a fifth major. After 40–50 years of existence, the shift can bring questions like, – What will happen to past winners? Would the players retain their championship titles? And many others.
