The then 27-year took a dig at the PGA Tour golfer after a fan pointed out that the 48-inch driver led him to have a terrible start at the Masters. Notably, DeChambeau had contemplated whether to use the long driver at the Augusta National for a long time in 2020, which made the golf world react this way.

It is not a secret that DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka consider each other their professional rivals. Koepka is known for making fun of his rival’s slow play, among other things through social media. Therefore, when the four-time major champion found out about Spiranac‘s comment on DeChambeau, he was more than happy to react to it!

Koepka and DeChambeau are known for taking turns digging at each other on and off the course whenever possible. Surprisingly, Koepka had revealed that using an extra-length driver would benefit his rival since he already is great at covering more distance than any others on the Tour.

“It looks really promising right now,” DeChambeau said about his extra long driver a few days before the 2020 Masters. “I’m not 100 percent sure,” he further added. “If I’ll put it in play yet just because of the unknown.” Notably, he didn’t end up using the driver at the Augusta National.

DeChambeau had won his first major, the US Open, in September that same year without the 48-inch driver. Furthermore, he had already established his name as the longest hitter on the Tour. He had covered an average of 344-yard in the 2021-2022 season.

Notably, the 48-inch was the maximum length a golfer could use in a tournament according to the Rules of Golf in 2020. However, after DeChambeau wanted to use it, the officials changed the maximum length to 46 from 48!

The golf world thought that the golfer would go against the rule. However, DeChambeau didn’t do it and went on to accept the rule. “I welcome it as long as they don’t change the human element,” he said.
