As the Open Championship concluded, all majors for the year 2023 were over. The golf world found four different players as major champions this year, and unfortunately, Scottie Scheffler was not one of them. However, despite not being a winner, the American pro is still ruling the golf world, as he stands above all in the OWGR rankings.

Just this month, the golf pro almost lost his top ranking spot to Rory McIlroy, who has also found superb form of late and even won the Scottish Open. However, not only did Scheffler manage to keep his top spot, he even one-upped Rory and every other golfer on another front—the Ryder Cup!

The Ryder Cup 2023 preparations are well underway for September this year at the Marco Simone Golf Club in Italy. The teams from both sides are slowly forming, and the American side is now the first to see a qualifying member. The world’s top-ranked golfer, a.k.a. Scottie Scheffler, has secured his place among the 12 players on Team USA for the international event this year.

The 27-year-old Texan is the team’s first automatic qualifier based on the points he’s earned competing on the Tour this season. Seeing as how he was the first to make it onto the Ryder Cup field as well as how he’s the number one player in the world, in an Instagram post, the Ryder Cup posted a photo of him and paid him homage! The caption read, “No. 1 in the World. No. 1 Qualifier for the U.S. Welcome back to the team, @scottie.scheffler”

As per the Ryder Cup’s Website, Scottie Scheffler has expressed his feelings about the selection. He recalls the Ryder Cup of 2021 in Wisconsin, where Team USA took home the win, with a desire to replicate it in September this year. “Zach’s an amazing leader, and I’m ready to do whatever it takes to help him and our team bring the Ryder Cup back home to the United States,” he stated.

Team USA captain Zach Johnson also praised Scheffler’s golfing talent and commitment to the Ryder Cup. “He’s an amazing talent on the golf course and someone that I know will do whatever is asked of him at the Ryder Cup with a smile on his face.” This will be Scottie’s second experience with the Ryder Cup after his successful run at the 2021 edition. His presence also undoubtedly adds some weight to the expectations of the U.S. winning the Cup. However, there is still a long way to go!
