Patrick Reed and the Ryder Cup 2018 controversy

Reed moved to LIV Golf a few months back. However, the pro golfer was vocal about the things that bothered him. In 2018, he confronted US captain, Jim Furyk. Reed shared his contentions against Furyk’s decision to leave him out of two sessions at the Ryder’s Cup.

His exact words were, “For somebody as successful in the Ryder Cup as I am, I don’t think it’s smart to sit me twice,” added Reed, who beat Tyrrell Hatton in Sunday’s singles. “Every day [in the team room] I saw: ‘Leave your egos at the door.’ They [the Europeans] do that better than us.”

Reed’s bold confrontation and the stark comparison he drew with the Europeans, gained massive attention across the golfing world. He termed these decisions to be not “as smart.” This was after the pro golfer criticized Jordan Spieth for his decision not to team up with him.

He elaborated upon how he personally does not mind teaming up with anyone if it is in the favor of the team. He detailed how he keeps his personal away from the professional.

Patrick’s confrontation had not only resulted in raised eyebrows of major stakeholders, but had also successfully stirred a whirl of gossip in the world of golf at that point in time.

The judge dismissed the complaint Patrick filed

In a more recent turn of events, a judge has chosen to dismiss the complaint that Patrick Reed had filed against Brandel Chamblee and others.

Reed had apparently filed a $750 million lawsuit in August against Chamblee, Shane Bacon, Damon Hack, Eamon Lynch, and others. It also involved media giants like Golfweek and Gannett.

The lawsuit was around how the aforementioned defendants had conspired against Reed. He claimed that this was done in order to defame the pro golfer after he joined LIV Golf. He also took a not-so-subtle yet indirect hit at the PGA Tour. The lawsuit also talked about how these defendants engaged in a pattern of misinformation and defamation against Reed.

However, U.S. District Judge, Timothy J. Corrigan, dismissed the complaints. This was done on the ground that it required vastly different factual allegations.
