The arrival of LIV Golf has been troubling the world of the PGA Tour. The Saudi-backed Golf Tour has managed to grab all the top stars of their rival Tour. Moreover, a recent report suggests that with the end of the Tour Championship, more golf stars will be making the jump to LIV Golf.

As each day passes, there’s always a rumor hanging behind a PGA Tour star being linked with the lucrative Tour. The most recent one has been the 2022 Open Championship winner, Cameron Smith.

The Australian is reportedly joining LIV Golf by next week despite being announced as a participant in the Presidents Cup. This puts his participation in the event in jeopardy. However, Smith isn’t the only Presidents Cup player who is making his way to the Greg Norman-led Tour. Instead, he has a company of at least five other PGA Tour players with him.

LIV Golf gives further trouble to PGA Tour

Since his arrival in Memphis to take part in the first FedEx Cup playoff event, Cam Smith has rejected all rumors related to LIV Golf. He said, “I have no comment to that. I’m here to play the FedExCup Playoffs. That’s been my focus the last week and a half, that’s what I’m here to do”.

Smith is expected to compete in the fourth LIV tournament, which will take place next week outside of Boston. However, he continued to withhold his comment following his third round at the Tour Championship.

Moreover, several trusted sources also reported that Mito Pereira, Marc Leishman, Harold Varner III, Cameron Tringale, and Joaquin Niemann will also join the breakaway league the next week. Niemann disclosed in an interview that he has yet to decide on his move to LIV Golf. Sports Illustrated also reported that Periera is not scheduled to take part in next week’s LIV Golf event.

The most recent wave of switches will have a disastrous effect on the International Presidents Cup team, especially if Pereira decides to play at Quail Hollow before taking part in his first LIV Golf competition. For Trevor Immelman’s team, Smith, Niemann, and Pereira were all among the top 8 automatic qualifiers.

Immelman will be given more captain’s picks since the International team qualifiers were decided upon last week. The Tour members violate the circuit’s regulations by participating in a LIV event, regardless of whether they have joined the Tour or not. This has resulted in numerous, lengthy suspensions for players. Involvement in the Presidents Cup is among the sanctions.

There is an event in Chicago the week before the Presidents Cup in addition to the LIV Golf tournament that will take place in Boston in the following week. With nearly 20 days left for the Presidents Cup, the PGA Tour has some tough time ahead of themselves.
