‘John Daly of Women Golf’: LPGA Legend’s 25+ Years of Legacy Gets Hailed By Golf Spectators Despite a Disappointing Finish at Baltusrol GC

The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is in its final stages. The two rounds have been completed and the top players are in contention to go head-to-head for the highly coveted title, and the $9 million purse at the iconic Baltusrol in New Jersey. The fans will get to see tremendous golfers on Saturday such as Leona Maguire, Minjee Lee, Mel Reid, and Lin Xiyu. 

Other than the emerging and young LPGA sensations, golf fans were excited to see one of the golf veterans, who has quite a decorated career and spread her charm just like in the old days. 

LPGA Tour appreciates the golf veteran

Laura Davies is one of the most appreciated and celebrated golfers on the LPGA Tour. The 59-year-old golfer turned pro in 1988 and has won 20 times on the tour. The legendary golfer has a total of 87 professional wins in her career. Other than her professional wins, Davies has won the major championship four times.

She went ahead and emerged victorious in US Women’s Open in 1987, her first major victory. Her second major win was in 1994 and her third in 1996; both times she won Women’s PGA Championship. In 1996, she also won another major championship, the du Maurier Classic. 

In 1994, the golf veteran shot a final round 68, and she was three strokes ahead of runner-up Alice Ritzman. In 1996, Davies won at even par, one stroke ahead of runner-up Julie Piers. She is currently competing at the 2023 Women’s PGA Championship and the 4-time major champion’s finish at Baltustrol Lower Course has not been like her old days. She is currently on the downside of the leaderboard with a score of 12 over. 

She is one of the most adored golfers among the fans and has built a legacy that can not go unnoticed at all. LPGA Tour posted an appreciation post for the golf veteran on their Instagram handle, and it was the absolute right thing to recognize her untarnished legacy of over 25 years.
