Does Tom Kim's repeated locker room rage deserve a ban, or is a fine sufficient?

For the 3rd time in two months, Tom Kim is in the limelight again. This time, he has repeated his act of vandalism. The only difference is that he did it behind closed doors.

Following his loss at the 2024 Genesis Championship, a very disappointed Tom Kim still acted gracefully on the course. But his anger unraveled once he reached the locker room. Out of frustration, the 22-year-old broke his locker’s door at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in South Korea. Following his actions, he shared a post on Instagram apologizing for his actions. However, it seems that the KPGA is still not satisfied with the apology.

In his post, he stated that he did apologize to the DP World Tour officials and the KPGA team for his actions. Kim also confirmed that he insisted on paying the fines for the damages he caused and the chapter has since closed. However, Matt Vincenzi from WPRI 12 has something else to say about the incident.

Matt said that the KPGA has still not clarified whether Kim will face any consequences for his behavior. However, he believes that Kim may have to bear disciplinary action. This may come in the form of a ban from the Korea Championship.

@acaseofthegolf1 shared a post on their X account comparing Tom Kim’s action to that of Bio Kim’s obscene gesture towards the crowd back in 2019. To jog your memory, the South Korean player Bio Kim was disturbed by the loud crowd on the course when he was approaching a title-winning hole. This caused him to lose focus and miss his stroke. That led him to flip off at the crowd. Bio Kim did apologize to the Tour for his actions but was banned from the Korean Championship for 3 years.

With Tom Kim possibly facing similar charges, @acaseofthegolf1 argued on his post that he shouldn’t be served a ban. Kim’s actions were conducted in closed quarters, away from the sights of the fans. Hence, he doesn’t deserve such a severe punishment for his actions. The golf fan stated that Tom Kim should not face anything more than a fine.

Previously, he was caught on camera destroying a part of the green when he missed an easy putt back in August 2024. He made a public apology for the same and also bore the cost of the damages with a fine. He was in the limelight again in September 2024, when he falsely accused Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay of abusing him on the field. It turned out that it was actually someone from the crowd and Kim ended up apologizing to his fellow pros for his statement. He has picked up a habit of apologizing for his actions quite often in the past few months.
