Cameron Smith is not unknown to anyone keeping up with the world of golf, as the star player is probably at the peak of his career. The Australian professional golfer continues to make rounds for a multitude of reasons. Be it with his decision to shift to LIV Golf or him being “blackballed” from PGA Tour Clubs.

Recently, a list of clubs was brought to light. Apparently, he was removed from them after making a decision to move to LIV Golf. The Tour’s seemingly “petty” move was called out.

Cameron Smith blackballed by PGA Tour following his move to LIV

The PGA-LIV rivalry dates back to the latter’s initiation into the golf world. The Greg Norman-led league has a long track record of attracting highly ranked players to its troop.

One of these highly-ranked players who chose to make the shift was Cameron Smith. As is well known, Smith is a supremely talented pro golfer who has won the 2022 Open Championship along with five other tournaments on the PGA Tour.

Therefore, when Smith made the shift to LIV, the Tour’s disappointment was clear. However, what was more shocking is the way the tour decided to respond.

As a result, his parking space at TPC Sawgrass was removed. Adding to all the ongoing drama, the sign that had Smith’s name was replaced with a generic one reading: “Tour players only”. This move of the tour was named a petty one.

According to NLU’s Carter, Smith has been “blackballed” from these clubs: San Jose, Atlantic Beach, Pablo Creek, Ponta Vedra Inn & Club, and The Yards.

He said, “They’ve called around to every single one of these places and had him blackballed. And it’s like, that’s kinda f***ed up. I don’t really think Cam really did anything egregious on his way out their door. [It’s like] holy s*** you guys are so sloppy and you are so poorly run and the way that your own members…their perception of you is so negative. I think it’s ripped the band-aid off of that. And I think, at the end of the day, it should be a good thing with the PGA Tour moving forward if they can wrap their arms around it and figure out how to get better for it.”

Smith also talked about his reasons for making the shift. He said, “The biggest thing for me joining is [LIV’s] schedule is really appealing,” Smith said. “I’ll be able to spend more time at home in Australia and maybe have an event down there as well. I haven’t been able to do that, and to get that part of my life back was really appealing.”

Recently, he also suggested that LIV Golf should also have a system of World ranking points like the PGA Tour does. As it would reinforce the players to improve their game.
