Is Keegan Bradley's support for LIV Golf the worst decision in Ryder Cup history?

Will Us Team Bridge the golf divide for Ryder Cup Glory? John Linder, the PGA of America President, announced Keegan Bradley to lead the team for the upcoming edition of the Ryder Cup. As he took the captaincy duty on his shoulders, he was to introduce himself at a press conference the following day in New York.

Former team captain Zach Johnson has often been dismissive of a LIV player’s chance at playing at the Ryder Cup. However, the new captain has a different stance on selecting Team USA’s 12. As Bradley shared how he would approach LIV Golf, he said he would fill out the team only with the best players. This will be irrespective of their tour affiliation.

NUCLR Golf recently took to their official X (formerly Twitter) account, reported the news, with an excited image of Bradley, and wrote, “Keegan Bradley will NOT be playing politics as he picks his team”. They even quoted him, “I’m going to have the 12 best players on the team. I don’t care where they play.”

S.I.com writer Bob Harig also covered the 2025 Ryder Cup captain’s conference, highlighting Keegan Bradley’s disappointment from last year when he discovered he would not be part of the American squad. Despite his strong desire to represent his country on the grand stage, he was ultimately snubbed, leaving his dreams shattered.

It only makes sense that this time, instead of beating around the bush, the focus will be on selecting based solely on gameplay. Last year on the Italian greens, the Stars and Stripes had to witness Team Europe lift the trophy. To bring the trophy home, the U.S. team may need to look past the LIV-PGA Tour rivalry and focus on bringing the best talent on board. ‘So we have a mission to win this tournament. I’m not worried about the LIV stuff,’ added Bradley. But does the golf community agree with this?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Keegan Bradley's support for LIV Golf the worst decision in Ryder Cup history?

Have an interesting take?

Is the golf community not in favor of including LIV Golfers in Team US?

The golf community does not seem to be very happy with Keegan Bradley’s decision to take the LIV Golfers as part of the Ryder Cup team. Although, according to one of them, this is not such big a deal. If the player is good enough, he will be considered to be a part of the team. What happened last year, when Brooks Koepka became the lone player from the LIV Golf to be a part of the Ryder Cup team? And well, he did fairly well. Going against Ludvig Aberg in March 23, he won with a 3 & 2. However, taking to this stance, one of the fans mocked him and commented, “For the record, they were considered for 2023 so not sure why this is such a big deal.”

In the process of the Ryder Cup team selection, there are six automatic qualifying seats. Aside from that, the captain has his own choice of picks for the remainder seats. He can select golfers who were not part of the top six throughout the season. Referring to the captain’s pick, “Ummm. Don’t they have to qualify w/points on the tour? So he plans on ignoring anyone who plays that has qualified in the top 10 in points and choosing who he wants to?”

For three decades, the European team has been undefeated on their home soil, and the US team has returned without the coveted gold trophy. Zach Johnson was the latest captain to fail. And thus, the fans demanded that there had to be a change in the pattern of the team to get back in the game.

Although Tiger Woods was the first option, since he refused to take up the role, Keegan Bradley was selected. Now, the fans aren’t very happy with this choice either, but they are willing to take up any chance for a win. Taking to this, one of them, technically mocking both the captains, wrote, “Not sure why Keegan is the captain but at least he’s not Zach Johnson.”

However, another felt that Keegan Bradley simply was not the right decision for the team captaincy. And the fact that he is choosing to go for LIV Golfers on the team, according to the golf community, makes him an even more unworthy pick. They wrote, “Worst pick EVER! We’re gonna get shellacked.”

When it comes to the OWGR list, only two players from LIV Golf are on the Top-10 list, Bryson DeChambeau (9), and Jon Rahm (10). Of course, a part of it is because playing for the breakaway league does not qualify you to get OWGR points. Nonetheless, this is what the fans have been taking into consideration. Bryson DeChambeau has been plummeting with his outstanding performance.

While Brooks Koepka took over the PGA Championship 2024 with a 2 stroke win from the World’s No. 1, DeChambeau took over the US Open with a one-stroke win from the World’s No. 2. However, these were the only prominent LIV Golfers in the season according to the fans. Taking to this, one of them simply wrote, “That still only means Brooks and Bryson from Liv.”

Well, Keegan Bradley has stated that he is willing to attend the LIV Golf tournaments to select the best 12. But is that a wise decision? Let us know in the comments section below!
