We are almost through three months of the 2025 schedule and with a few months to go for the iconic matchup between the best of golfers, the Ryder Cup selection has started to pick up the pace. The American team captain, Keegan Bradley, has always been on an active lookout to complete his team. After getting snubbed from the 2023 team, he is now on the move to be a better captain by keeping an eye on each player to get the best bunch of golfers. Even in 2024, he has shared how he is open to players from different leagues. Bradley quoted, “I’m not worried about the LIV stuff. I want the best players on the team.”

Well, this unique strategy of Bradley is being followed by his opposition as well. Luke Donald, who has led the team to victory in 2023, will continue as captain of the European Team. But for this season, he has taken a page from Bradley’s book when it comes to player selection. Donald has been contacting all prospective players after they deliver a good performance.

This can be further clarified through the post shared by Flushing It on X. The post shared that Donald had contacted a LIV Golfer, Adrian Meronk after his win in LIV Golf Riyadh. Meronk’s quotes shared on the post read, “Luke Donald texted me after my win in Riyadh and said, ‘keep playing well.’ Obviously, if I am playing well, I will be available and I want to play. But it is not my main goal. I think the focus is just to play well and see what happens.” The Polish professional is on a good run, he even had a t-15 finish at Adelaide.

Being a LIV golfer, he is currently ranked at 137th position in Ryder Cup standings. Despite his win, only his participation in a Major could help him jump up on the rankings. Well, with his current participation at the International Series Macau, the top three golfers can get an exception for the Open Championship. Even for Meronk, it is the biggest goal. He shared about it saying, “It is the biggest goal this weekend, to grab one of those spots. I will need to have a good weekend to do that.” Currently, with his performance, he is placed T32 after opening rounds of 66 and 70. His performance during the final two rounds could be the decider for his ranking and help him with strong contention for the Ryder Cup 2025.

Apart from Meronk who has already earned praise from the captain, there is another LIV golfer, Sergio Garcia looking for help to get in contention with his exceptional performance.

Sergio Garcia hopeful for his place Ryder Cup

Apart from Meronk who won at the Riyadh, Garcia has been turning heads with his performance since the beginning of the year. The Spanish professional who won his first event in July 2024 at the Andalucia has continued his form. Starting the 2025 season, he has recorded T6 at Riyadh, and T18 at Adelaide. Even a sweet victory in Hong Kong to keep a strong foot for his contention in the team.

Not just with performance, but Garcia has conveyed the same with his statements. He said, “I think he’s watching,” for Captain Donald. Further, he added, “We’ve been in touch, so I know that he’s keeping an eye. The only thing I can do is keep playing good golf, and I just want to help the European team like I’ve tried to do every single time I’ve been a member of that team, and hopefully, he will think I’m good enough for it.” His good performance has definitely made his presence stronger and unavoidable for the captain. Looking at his stats at the Ryder Cup, he has been a constant asset to the team until 2021. In 2018 and 2021, he helped the team with 3 points. Though Garcia missed the last season and is worried about the same with 2025. There hasn’t been any conversation shared publicly where Donald has praised Garcia.

Can the constant performance of Sergio Garcia be enough for the Ryder Cup? What are your thoughts on it? Share with us in the comments section below.
