Without Thomas and Spieth, is the Presidents Cup losing its charm for American golf fans?

The President’s Cup is not even here yet, and the controversies have already started. The elite golf fans know how fun it becomes when Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are playing on Team USA. However, this year their exclusion from Team USA has sparked controversy, and the fans are not ready to shut up, we know what happens when golf fans are upset about something.

Jordan Spieth delivered an amazing performance after teaming up with Justin Thomas to win all four sessions without reaching the 18th hole at the 2022 Presidents Cup. Spieth’s Sunday singles match against Davis was the major highlight of overcoming early struggles to birdie holes 11, 12, and 13. This victory made Spieth the first American to go 5-0-0 at the Presidents Cup since 2011. Same with Thomas, who boats an exceptional team match-play record of 17-7-4 across Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup competitions. That’s why their not being included in this year’s team made the fans super upset.

In the latest post by Justin Thomas Tracker, the golf fans went all out in showing their disappointment with some wholesome pictures of Thomas and Spieth on the previous President’s Cup. The caption read, “😢 #PresidentsCup week without these two…” And well, if the fans are angry, they’ve got a pretty good reason to be given the golfers’s previous performances and the fun they had.

Netizens express their thoughts on Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth not making the team

One thing you can rely on the golf fans for has to be a brutal review or truth. And in between the controversies of Spieth and Thomas not being a part of Team USA for the 2024 Presidents Cup, the fans have said pretty brutal things. So let’s start with the most accurate comment on the matter: “Doesn’t feel right,” said one fan. And well, it pretty much sums up the feeling golf fans have at the moment. Another fan said, “Won’t be the same,” and it certainly wouldn’t be. Not only the fans, but even golfer and YouTuber Smyliee Kauffman also expressed his thoughts on the matter.

In the latest episode of the Symlie Show, Kauffman said that he doesn’t understand why Max Homa or Brian Harman were picked over Justin Thomas. “The Max one is very difficult to [understand] when you look at the numbers and try to understand why Max was picked versus other guys, I’m definitely a little, you know, disappointed in that JT’s not on the team,” he said. Kauffman and Thomas are believed to be good friends, so Thomas not being on the team definitely made Kauffman upset.

“I could see Homa and Brian both not being picked over Thomas,” Kaufman added. This fan seems to agree with Kauffman: “Brian Harmon needs to step up his game! JT was playing well towards the end of the season!” Thomas was later in the category of becoming the vice-captain for Team USA after not being selected; however, Thomas’s best friend Kauffman believed that if the opportunity presented itself, the golfer would deny it. “There’s no chance he’s doing that. No chance, absolutely, no chance,” he said.

Despite Kauffman being so sure of Thomas’s decision, the conversation never took place. This one fan didn’t even know that Thomas and Spieth were not picked and said, “I had no idea this was happening.” While another fan said, “Gotta say. Snubbed. But excited to watch this week regardless.” And well, the golf community is excited about the event, even though many believe the players were snubbed of the opportunity. So what are your thoughts on the matter?
