The 2025 season is finally heading into the dear arms of the prestigious Masters Tournament, yet two different worlds are keeping Justin Thomas busy. 1. The million ups and downs with The PLAYERS Championship moderate finish (T33). And 2. Thomas’ Atlanta Drive GC winning the second TGL playoffs. But hey, there’s another thing. The media industry. Or, more specifically, Hollywood. How, you ask?
Well, in case somehow you missed it, the 31-year-old golf star will be one of the many featured professional golfers in the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2. Five-time TOUR winner Jimmy Walker found the first film funny. “…It just made you laugh,” Walker said. “I don’t even think you have to be a golfer to enjoy it. It could appeal to everybody just because it was funny.” Fast forward to 2025, and his words seem to be true with fans excited for the film! Last month, at the WM Phoenix Open, he said he’s “Obsessed with Happy Gilmore.”
Essentially, Thomas was consequently excited to be working alongside Adam Sandler, the titular character of both films. So, what was it like for Thomas to be working in a completely different space? In Justin Thomas’s words: “Extremely uncomfortable.” Before we get into that, let’s see what it’s been like for him.

Thomas says he had to adjust to the new setting. “I definitely realized pretty quickly how often I quote Adam Sandler movies in my everyday life. Because when you’re around the person you naturally don’t want to do that to not make yourself kind of look stupid.” Not the first time the golfer has mentioned Sandler.
Back in February at the WM Phoenix Open, he talked about the first Happy Gilmore film and Sandler. “I mean, that movie, that generation of movies is literally what we grew up on, and I realized how many Adam Sandler quotes I use in my daily life when I’m around him…” adding that he felt uncomfortable mentioning that around the actor. Fast forward to March, and he has more to add to the talk. “But it was borderline very excessive, I started to realize, on my end, so it was almost a reality check. It was very, very cool.”

So, what was it like working on a set? “I mean, I would say if you put us in any situation outside of golfers it would be extremely uncomfortable, but at least we’re able to somewhat be ourselves,” Thomas added that despite it, it was a learning experience. And we don’t doubt that. The trailer is out. The film will be released on July 25. Will you be watching the film starring names like Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler, among others? It’s McIlroy’s film debut! While you ponder over the question, let us inform you a little more about Justin Thomas and his love for films.

Justin Thomas’s love for movies is age-old
Interestingly, Happy Gilmore isn’t the only film Thomas loves. Back in 2016, he commented that he was obsessed with the sports comedy “Semi-Pro.” Fellow American golfer Cory Whitsett and he repeatedly watched it on the road and at school “to the point where at nationals in 2013, before my finals match, I watched it in the team van before I teed off.” Thomas was in love with it so much that he was confident he could quote every word. But was that it?
No, back then he also shared that if he ever got to make a serious golf film, he’d “make it a story about a guy trying to win the Grand Slam.” Thomas said there would be a love interest and other side plots but how about the main thing? “His battle to win the PGA Championship and complete the slam. But what would happen is, he wouldn’t struggle to win it.” So, what would be the selling point? According to a much younger Justin Thomas, “The real twist is what happens to my hero after he wins. That’s the surprise, and I’m not revealing what it is until the movie gets made.” We are holding onto that! He is currently set for the upcoming Valspar Championship. So, how do you think the film and his 2025 season will go?
