Is Justin Thomas's career on a downward spiral, or can he bounce back stronger than ever?

Justin Thomas’ 2024 season has been anything but ordinary. It has been more than two years since the 15-time PGA Tour winner won a title on the PGA Tour, and the 2024 season was like no other. Although Thomas was not always at the bottom of the leaderboard, he was rarely in the top five or in contention.

Thomas played 11 PGA Tour events with cuts and missed four of them, including the Masters and the 124th U.S. Open. His worst performance was at the Genesis Scottish Open (T66), while his best was at the American Express (T3). In total, the two-time major winner finished five times in the top 10 and four more times in the top 25.

But coming into the TOUR Championship, Thomas wanted to finish big and better. Through 12 holes of the opening round, the 31-year-old was only 5 strokes behind the leader, Scottie Scheffler. Interestingly, Thomas started without any extra strokes as he was 30th in the FedExCup standings. Yet, he was just a few strokes from taking the lead. This led to Monday Q Info predicting that Thomas had a chance of winning the TOUR Championship for the first time in his career.

But the golf world quickly dismissed the prediction about Thomas winning the coveted TOUR Championship trophy and gave a harsh reality check about the 15-time PGA Tour winner.

In the past two years, Justin Thomas has often opened his first round with an excellent score but then tends to drop down the leaderboard in the following days. The most recent example was at The Open. Thomas started with a 68 at Royal Troon but faltered with rounds of 78-67-77 over the next three days and finished T31. Alluding to the same, one fan said, “As much as I love JT this is very regular for him this season hot first couple rounds and loses it on the weekend but my fingers are crossed.”

Have an interesting take?

At first, JT was only 5 back from the leader, but after the first day concluded at East Lake Golf Club, the 15-time PGA Tour winner tumbled down. While Scottie Scheffler finished 16 under after the opening round, Thomas stayed at 5 under and finished T14. As the prediction was made mid-round, this user sarcastically said, “Lol. He finished 11 back. Y’all need to stop posting stuff like this mid round.”

Thomas’ entry into the season-ending event was pure luck. How? Well, the 31-year-old was T30 and T39 at the St. Jude Championship and the BMW Championship, respectively. He was out of the top 30 after concluding the four rounds at Castle Pines. JT needed a few golfers to play badly, and many did, catapulting Thomas to 30th in the standings and securing a seat at East Lake. Thus, this golf enthusiast explained how JT wouldn’t win as he has struggled throughout and said, “Needed a few guys to collapse to even make it to Eastlake, just like Keegan did to make it to the BMW.”

Another user was downright offended by the possibility that Justin Thomas might win the TOUR Championship. JT would need to make a giant stride to come closer to Scheffler’s 16 under, which at this point seems improbable. Yet this user was appalled at the possibility and said, “That would be god damn awful if he won.” While many did not see Thomas winning the TOUR Championship, a few did not mind it, like this fan. Although they disregarded him as a golfer, they still said, “He is meh, but good for him.”
