Golf in the new year started with the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions. The tournament took place at the scenic Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. Some of the most prominent names took to the field, hoping to start the season with a win. The field included 38 out of 39 players who were playing the tournament; Rory McIlroy was the only one to miss out.
Notably, TOC witnessed several records being broken by the professionals, making for an enthralling watch.

Records that were broken at the PGA Tour Opener
Cameron Smith won the season opener at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Hawaii. In the second round of the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions, the 18 hole leader started the round with two bogeys on the first two holes. However, he became the first person since 2003 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions to keep the 36-holes lead even after starting with two consecutive bogeys.
Justin Thomas broke the course record with 12 under par 61 in the third round. But Jon Rahm equaled the record in the same round. Justin finished tied for the fifth position while Rahm finished at the second position, one behind the lead after the final round.

Cameron Smith broke the record for most strokes in a 72-hole PGA Tour event by finishing with an overall score of 34 under par. Ernie Els first broke the record for most strokes in a 72-holes tournament with an overall score of 31 under par in 2003. Later, Jordan Spieth did it in 2006 with an overall score of 30 under par, and Dustin Johnson shot the same score in 2020 at the Northern Trust Championship.
They were shot in different time periods, but sentry broke this too. First Mat Jones shot an overall score of 32 under par breaking Ernie’s record, Jon Rahm shot 33 under par breaking Mat’s record and the winner broke Jon’s record with an overall score of 34 under par.

Cameron creates history again in golf
Cameron Smith tied the record for the fewest puts in a round. The Aussie shot a round of 62 at the WGC -FedEx St. Jude Invitational in 2021. Smith is very famous for his putting skills. The Aussie is currently placed 10th in the World Golf Rankings.
