“Patrick Reed has been withdrawn from the entry list for the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club.” A spokesperson of the DP World Tour informed the media regarding the golfer’s participation in the upcoming Scottish Open.

The lifetime membership couldn’t help Patrick Reed attend the Scottish Open

Reed got his DP World Tour lifetime membership in 2019. He is one of the selected 57 players to receive this honor. “If all went well, you’d like to for sure,” the golfer told SI’s Bob Harig about playing in the Scottish Open.

“There’s something special about being an honorary lifetime member of the European Tour,” he further added. “And how I kind of look at it is that now the PGA Tour has made their stance, that just means I can play for Europe and bring more value to their tour.”

Notably, the DP World Tour has banned the LIV golf players from attending the upcoming three events for playing in the league. Furthermore, the Tour also imposed a £100,000 fee on each player. The LIV golfers sent a letter in protest. However, the Europe Tour officials were adamant about their decision.

Since Reed had a lifetime membership on the Tour, he had hoped he would be immune from the punishment. However, with the new announcement, it has been revealed that that was not the case.

Reed’s debut at the LIV Golf Invitational Series

The 2018 Masters Tournament champion Reed played his first LIV event in Portland. With 2 bogeys and 6 birdies, the golfer ranked at T3, with Dustin Johnson, after the event ended.

With his impressive result, Reed won $1,275,000 as prize money for securing the third position. Notably, his team, 4 Aces, won the first prize among the 12 teams and got $3 million as prize money. With Reed, his other team members, Johnson, Talor Gooch, and Pat Perez, accumulated 23-under to make the team win first.

Reed has a lifetime membership in the DP World Tour. Yet, that didn’t stop the European Tour from banning him from the Scottish Open which is a LIV event.
