History is all set to be made at the Tiburon Golf Club this year! Two LPGA Tour players will play against the PGA Tour golfers at the QBE Shootout for the first time in the tournament’s history. The American golfing sensations Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda will be part of the event that begins on December 7.

2022 will mark 22 years since the Tiburon Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Naples, began to host the PGA Tour Challenge Season event. Although female golfers have been part of this prestigious tournament before, it will be the first time two LPGA Tour players will compete together in it against the PGA players.

On November 2, more than a month before the QBE Shootout began, the officials released the players included in the field. “The quality of the players competing makes for an exciting event,” QBE North America CEO Todd Jones said during the announcement. “And I am particularly pleased that two LPGA stars – Lexi Thompson and Nelly Korda – will join the field in Naples.”

Notably, Korda, the current world no. 4, will make her debut at the QBE Shootout with her participation this year. On the contrary, it will be Thompson‘s, the world no. 7 golfer, 6th time playing on the Tiburon Golf Club field since she began to play there in 2016. Her best finish at the event was T4 when she teamed up with Tony Finau in 2017.

Apart from two of the world’s top women golfers, the Naples-based course will also feature six of the top 30 and ten of the top 50 (based on the OWGR standings) male golfers. This includes Billy Horschel, Cameron Young, Max Homa, Kevin Kisner, and K.H. Lee.

LIV Golf players are not part of the 2022 QBE Shootout

The duo, Kevin Na and Jason Kokrak, won the QBE Shootout in 2021. However, they are part of LIV Golf now and are currently banned from attending any Tour-sanctioned events. Therefore, neither Na and Kokrak nor other LIV golfers are part of the 2022 Tiburon Golf Club field.

Notably, the seasonal event will follow other traditions as usual, including following a scramble format during round 1. Although the field has been announced, the teams are not yet confirmed.
