The Crushers GC captain was able to push his team to the top of the leaderboard in Chicago owing to the sensational performance put up during the same. Scoring a total of 13 under 200 to clinch the trophy, he was able to register his second win of the season to place himself in the 3rd spot in the 2023 standings. And he did disclose his secret weapon behind it in an interview.
In an interview with the current top 3 in the LIV Golf standings ahead of the tournament in Jeddah, the 30-year-old was asked about the reason behind his jump from the 38th position to the 3rd. The professional went ahead to reveal how his new driver “luckily” helped him reach a new level and “changed the mindset” for him.
Continuing on his response, the 30-year-old recounted how he “was still hitting the driver pretty far off line” despite playing well in Andalucia. The ‘Scientist’ recalled the duck-hook he hit at No. 11 “three times off the tee,” all the while pointing out how it shouldn’t have happened if “you’re looking to win a golf tournament.” Nevertheless, he was able to find the first ball, which was nothing short of luck, as per Gooch.
DeChambeau would be hoping to use the new driver to repeat his wins in a bid to become the individual champion in Jeddah. However, recent events have proved to be a bit dicey for the star, as he might compete on the course with a lot on his mind, all thanks to OWGR.

The OWGR verdict and DeChambeau’s response
It was decided by the OWGR not too long ago that the golfers who are a part of the Saudi-backed league would not be awarded points for the same. The ruling was made in view of the different format boasted by the PIF-funded league as opposed to the 72-hole format employed by the other tours. Moreover, the chairman, Peter Dawson, also pointed out how the LIV golfers are not in a position to be ranked “equitably” with the rest of the players.
Although “not surprised”, Bryson DeChambeau was not entirely fine with the decision as it would give many golfers a huge blow in being allowed to participate in the majors and the Ryder Cup, of which OWGR points are a huge part. However, he put forward a solution to give the top 12 golfers their spots based on how they “finish during the season” as opposed to completely cutting them off.
